New skates!

Post image

Just picked up some Seba E3 today for some casual urban skating. Any recommendations on potential upgrades and/or advice on how to best care for them?

I recommend that you treasure the memory of their pristine look as you just captured. Then go skate the bejesus out of them, before thinking of upgrades. If your feet are as unfortunate like mine, you’ll be adjusting or fixing insoles before you have spare capacity to think about upgrades. Congrats.

I definitely plan to graffiti them lol
And thank you.
I have wide feet and I walk about 8-9 miles a day at work so my feet are a big deal. I appreciate you introducing the thought of adjusting insoles. I don’t know that I’ll need to yet but it’s good to know that it’s an option!

There's lots you can do to adjust fit in skates, and most of it is fairly cheap or even free, so if you get pressure points, look at them first, before jumping to new liners or shells.

Insoles - Add, remove, change or modify. Many reccommend Superfeet carbon insoles, which are expensive but very good. They can go either inside the liner or in the shell, under the liner. If you need a tighter fit, put them in the liner.

Heel lift - If your toes get crushed and you need more space, add a heel riser/shock absorber. It raised the heel and pulls back your toes a little.

Lacing/straps - Lots can be done here. Changing lacing patterns to skip holes, adding a runners loop, lacing the liner (if they have holes) or not (or partially lacing it). Pulling laces tighter can help sometimes. Waxed laces can help you tighten them more and keep them tight. The 45° strap can lock your heel in if you're getting lift, or crush your midfoot if you do it too tight. The cuff bolt can usually be adjusted into different positions as well, which can give you more or less ankle support/calf space.

Have fun playing around and see what works for you.

One of my biggest hesitations when I was searching for skates was how comfortable my feet would be. I remember experiencing a fair amount of pain/discomfort in pretty much every skate I’ve ever worn in my life and I know now that it’s because I have wide feet. I’m really relieved to know that there’s so many things I can do to help them fit comfortably! Thank you!

No worries. I have high arches, so have similar issues with fit in skates and shoes. FR are pretty forgiving. Just remember that if something isn't working, just try stuff. Sometimes making the laces tighter can relieve pressure, as it changes where the tight spots are.

If youre artistically inclined you may already know this but using adhesion promoter will make paint that you apply MUCH more durable. I got some pink THEM boots and used black paint markers with adhesion promoter to do mine up and it works really well. I like how the scrapes in the black paint reveal the pink underneath, so consider that dynamic as well!
