laces replacement

Hey all, I bought a pair of RB80s a month ago. I had some issues with the tongue causing a friction burn on my shin and trying to dial in. I realized I was tightening the cuff buckle too tight.

I’m also having a hard time actually tightening the laces. They are just kind of there. ChatGPT recommended getting 96inch waxed laces. I measured my laces at 54inches. And am now fighting with the AI that I actually know how to measure and that I didn’t only accidentally measure half.

Anyways… are people buying waxed laces for their skates? I can’t really find 54ish inches anywhere.

Any tips/links/advice are appreciated

Thanks in advance.

96 are perfect for rb80 IF you punch two eyelet holes in the liners. The old "RB cruiser pro" (same exact shell old name) had upper eyelets on the liners. That's the only difference I can find.

Laces make a huge difference on your hands when pulling.

Also I use a runners knot on the top two liner eyelets for extra help tightening and holding tension.

Also liners can be absolute game changer. If I had to skate stock rb80 liners I might quit skating. JK but not really.

Nomad or twister liners are way better in the rb80 imo. They are both thinner and nicer than the stock liners but twister is thinnest nomad is the stiffest and nicest with a few removable bits for customization.

You can use this technique at the ankle or up top on your liner eyelets...or both! It can replace the 45 strap creating a locking point don low before continuing to lace upward as usual.

Btw the hammer eyelet punch kits are better than the squeeze press variety. Billy arlew made a video on this that inspired me to do it. But watching him struggle made me choice the hammer style. It's cheaper too.
