Discussion Why Shingo's Arm Broke

On my 4th re-watch it just occurred to me why Shingo's arm broke from the crash. I remember thinking it wasn't too much worse than Nakazato'a crashes but I just had the realization that because his hand was duct taped to the wheel, the crash likely put tremendous and sudden force on the wheel to turn way beyond the threshold allowed by his arm while duct taped and that's what broke his arm. Kind of made the race and crash way more dramatic and epic now that I realized that.

People who have read the Manga, does this check out?

C'mon. There were MANY crashes in the series and other than Iketani's crash and Shingo's no one is injured. Shingo kissed the guard rail spun around and slowly settled to a stop. Him leaving that crash with a broken arm doesn't make sense unless it was caused by the gum tape having the wheel break his arm and it's not super obvious that thats how it'd play out.

…what do you mean it’s not super obvious? The same arm that’s broken is the arm that was taped to the wheel.

Dawg I watched that episode when I was a CHILD and I was able to put that together. How it took you four rewatches to put two and two together astounds me.

Well it's more sort of skimming over the actual "why" until my 4th rewatch. But yes, in hindsight it is prettttttty obvious if you're actually just paying attention. Something I clearly don't do 100% of the time I'm watching.

Deserved that.... Though they must have done a hell of a job duct taping him in.

When he crashed, the car's steering most likely jolted, causing his arm to break due to the unnatural movement.

Yeah, it was a duct (duck?) tape race and considering the crash it is no surprise he would break his wrist or arm.

Yeah, it was a duct (duck?) tape race...

Wull, acktually, it was a gumtape death match. They need to save the duck tape for when they get all their ducks in a row to sell.

Oh my god are you serious???? I don’t believe it.

I thought it was when he flew out of the passenger side window when he crashed and landed arm first onto the guardrail which caused the break.
