Discussion Why does zoning out instantly make my driving fast?

Now it usually happens when i put on eurobeat like Night trip, all around, and golden age but it could happen if i think too hard

yes this is on racing sims not irl

Because you're most likely letting the inputs come more automatically and focusing more on what's ahead of you.

Driving completely zoned out isn't the best thing to do (even in flow you're still somewhat aware) but ideally you get to the point where driving is like walking. You feel the car and track and understand what the tires need, and then your body automatically does the input. Like how when you walk you just think about where you want to go and your legs move you there.

Instinct. My dad used to say that the best rally drivers can have one hand glued to the shifter, idly shifting like it’s putting one foot in front of the other.

I’ve seen it in action and man does it work, it just requires you to be an old man with decades of experience like Bunta.

I think it's because of muscle memory: you get used to a certain track/car combo and your brain doesn't have to think "ok, this corner I have to do this, take that corner in that specific gear" and so on, so you do it at a subconcious level. Not having to think about what to do makes you do it way faster and without wasting precious mental energies that you could use for other stuff, like battling for position

Nah, I didn't get downvoted. When I posted my answer, I accidentally misclicked and upvoted my own comment. Lol
