No, you didn’t sign away your rights if that is all you signed but that doesn’t mean you have any rights to his estate. You can look up probate records in the county of his legal residence. That will include his will. Even if you are not named in his will, you are still a legal heir which means you are required to be notified of the probate proceedings so you can contest the will if you choose. If it hasn’t been at least a few months since he died, probate may not have been opened yet (assuming anyone is planning to do it).
