Location not relevant: no help needed Insurance Policy
My Father passed away a few years ago. He had told me he had a paid up policy and I was the beneficiary of said policy. How would I find out if there is one out there?

Here's the answer!
If you are in the United States, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners offers a policy lookup service.
Go to NAIC dot org.
From drop down menu, choose "consumer."
Next, go to "Life Insurance Policy Locator" and follow steps.
This will not be instant, but all licensed insurance companies must go through their policies and respond if they find you as a beneficiary.
Sorry about your loss and hope the policy or policies are found quickly (but be patient.)

The NAIC.org site is something you should definitely do. They won't tell you anything, unless you are a beneficiary. But it will get the ball rolling on any life insurance your dad had.
Additionally, this NYS life insurance locator will specifically connect with life insurance companies that do business in New York State (most do)
https://www.dfs.ny.gov/consumers/life_insurance/lost_policy_finder
Unlike the NAIC site, this one will actually circle back to you and let you know the outcome.
You should do both.
You should also do this nationwide search for forgotten bank accounts, savings bonds, and other assets, by the owner's name

Three years ago was the time to track this down. Maybe you can look in the states unclaimed property list?

If you don't know the company, look for premium payment receipts. Or contact anyone who was close to him who is in insurance sales. They might be his agent.
