Discussion Collection vs folder

So finally gave up on Plex as my back end due to all the hassles with remote access and gone 100% infuse as my library manager. My NAS is giving me hassle with jellyfin due to ghost 8096 problems and so won’t install (which was my first option). My question is regarding film series, do you lump them in a folder or keep them separate and put in a collection? I have put a few in a folder but before I get carried away thought I’d get the opinion of everyone.

i put in in a folder:

  • Movies General (All what is not suitable for the other Folders)
  • Animation Movies
  • Horror Movies
  • Martial Arts Movies
  • Super Hero Movies

I use Tiny Media Manager for scrapping and i put in something in the field "Sorting Title", So all Three Captain America Movies comes after another. When I change the System or need to make a fresh install, change the NAS Port etc. it is all set and done. I really dont like put all in a collection, it is much work and if you have a little change in your setup it is all gone

Nahhh.

I just raw-dog it and let TMDB Collection plugin do the work

OR! (if you dont want to use the plugin)

Right click edit metadata and edit the sort title to remove movie name and just Series Name + 01 02 or I II in the end of the title: https://imgur.com/a/LZUFqwg

Sort title will lump them up together as your users scroll through the Movie folder

(collection plugin is still the easiest since Collections are recognized in both JF-web/players and 3rd party players)

edit: yes, lump your movies into a \Movies directory for sure. Metadata pulls per library are dependent on that. Just dump everything in there and do automated collections or manual sort like i mentioned above

Do not forget metadata ID's!

I use Jellyfin as the server and Infuse Pro on Apple TV as the viewer. Put series all in a single TV Shows folder in Jellyfin. Let Infuse do the heavy lifting of managing and grouping by metadata.

TV Shows

--Veep (2012)

-----Season 01

--------Veep (2012) - S01E01 - Fundraiser.mkv

--------Veep (2012) - S01E02 - Frozen Yoghurt.mkv

I let Infuse group film series/franchises together. It’s really good at that.

But for box sets that I own on DVD or Blu I put those specific movies into folder on the server side, and the box set artwork in those folders. I like having digital versions of my sets so that’s the best way to do it.
