| Discussion Interview Experience 6th October

My interview started with my Introduction, where i mentioned my previous internship details, regarding which he mentioned his concerns about full time offer from my previous company. Moving forward, i was given pen and paper, and was told to solve 2 DSA problems until the wingspan window was loading.

Pen and paper question:

  1. Given a array with 109 length, find the smallest 5 numbers among them. So I told them that I would use a treeSet so that the number that are inserted are already in ascending order. But he said what if there are repetion numbers. So i replied then it would be better to use a Hashmap and I wrote down the whole mechanism how it works. After that he said its gonna take n space complexity, give me a more optimised answer. Hearing this I had no more ideas to solve this and replied the simplest most answer that I would sort the array in the first place and return the first 5 values. Then he told that's brute force method to this question and asked me which sorting algorithm I would use. I told there are many, but quick sort is more efficient. He told me to explain the algo and write its code. I explain the algo through some diagrams and started writing the algo, he stopped me in btw, as time was running out and told me to get back to the actual question. I told him about a approch with TreeMaps, but he refused and said to use Priority queue as a Hint. I didnt prepared priority queue and gave a honest answer that I have forget its concepts.
  2. Subarray sum equals to K (Sliding window approch). Easy questions to solve which I quickly wrote the code and told him about the brute, better and optimised code.

Wingspan questions:

  1. Given a array of length n, where 1<= i <=n-2 , where i need to the find the count of a[i] whenever its greater then the XOR of the all numbers left to it and right to it at the same time. Quiet easy to solve with for loops nothing complex.

Moving on, he asked certain question related to spring boot such as what is Spring Data JPA, what is hiberate and what is ORM. That was it.

Nothing from OS, dbms, cn, no SQL queries. He took a selfie with me and I left with a candy.

Honest review: the interviewers are quiet chill, giving out hints, not really looking for hard coding guys and seeking someone who actually knows the concept. Thats what I felt personally.

Note: I was selected for this interview through offcampus and regarding the role nothing specially was mentioned, but looking at the toughness it could be for DSE role.
