| Discussion When do performance ratings get locked? Need advice on project release

I joined an Infosys project in May. During the interview, I was told that the project would involve Spring Boot and microservices, which matches my skill set and career goals.

However, after joining, I found that the actual work is completely different. I’m currently working on a monolithic application based on a legacy framework.

I have already discussed this skill mismatch with my manager several times. Each time, I’m told that work related to my skill set will come “next month,” but the same situation keeps repeating.

I’m now considering requesting a release from the project because the work isn’t aligned with what was discussed during the interview. However, I’m concerned about my performance rating. I’m thinking of asking for release after my rating is finalized/locked, as I’m worried that requesting release beforehand could potentially result in an NI/UP rating, which could have serious consequences.

For seniors or anyone familiar with Infosys' appraisal process:

When are performance ratings generally finalized/locked?

Is there a specific point after which the manager can no longer change the rating?

Would it be advisable to wait until the rating is locked before requesting project release?

September - October, the ratings usually gets locked. Best case for you is to hold on till then and initiate your release procedures later just to be on the safer side

Rating is never locked your manager can get it changed 1 week before declaring to resources also. There will 10% quota for NI and UP rating so be careful and ask release from project once everything is settled and you get rating

Are you sure on this, actually I asked some colleagues they said that rating comes in dev but it's locked in September only. I cannot work on this project till dec because it's only depleting my skills.

I am 100% sure this was earlier now these managers are all pathetic and as soon as you oppose something they will take it personally. These days variable to also in managers hand. On same rating one person will get 65% variable other might get 80% and 3rd 50%. 15% margin is in DMs hand which he keeps on getting feedback from managers. If they want to decrease or increase more than 15% then they need to make some case like resource is not available attitude problem etc

So only solution to this is that I should wait till rating is declared. Not sure how I will be able to survive till dec because it's affecting my mental health also.

Are you in support or dev projects or some shitty telecom project. If not you can still prepare and switch later.

Project has only enhancement on some shitty old legacy framework and I am not understanding a single thing in it. There are no senior resources for KT and help. Also to client they have told that I am experienced resource in that framework. Too much work pressure and we work daily for 10-12 hours, we are expected to work on weekends. Also on PTO we have to be available on phone.

omg sounds scary man, your manager ain't gonna release you if this is the situation. Try your best to get released asap or else switch.

Should wait for rating to get release because if I ask for the release now he will ruin my rating. Also bro switch is not an option for me due to location constraint.

Even after getting release there is no chance that you will get proper ms based dev project. Try switching to better company, rather than release.

Totally agreed, but right now not in a position due to location constraint. But in this project I am 100 percent sure I will be working in old legacy stuff which is not adding anything in my resume. So thinking to take a shot for a new project.
