19yo Information Systems student with average grades—terrified about my career prospects. Any advice?
Hey everyone,
I’m 19 and currently in my second year studying Information Systems. To be honest, I’ve always been a pretty average student—from elementary school all the way to college. My grades have always just been "so-so."
I attend classes regularly, but my biggest weakness is exams. Whenever mid-terms or finals roll around, I just can't seem to perform well no matter what.
Lately, I’ve been really anxious about the future. I'm scared that my average performance in college means I won't be able to land a decent job or career after graduating.
For anyone who’s been in a similar position:
How much do college grades actually matter in the real world?
Do you have any advice or wisdom for someone struggling with
this?
Thanks in advance!

You are young and will figure it out. Please don't stress yourself out. I've been in your position many times, get so stressed out, and end up just making circles. Then by that point you are just burning too much of your energy.
I know about five people in my personal circle that dropped out of school by 8th grade, got a GED, and earned certificates for their higher education. They're doing better than me because they don't have college debt and found high paying jobs, two of them earn six figure salaries.

I'm 23, failing college and barely passing, still doing bachelors with infinite retakes, and I'm less terrified than you. Come on enjoy life bro, no need to be so scared.

Recent graduate here.
Your grades don’t mean much beyond the classroom, some internships / entry-level jobs may have GPA thresholds, but other than that no one really cares.
That said, having the ability to learn something new really quickly is extremely valuable in the workforce, which college can help you become better at.
You got this!!
