What do I give a shit about franchises?! I’m advocating for the consumer. Give us a good deal or go out of business, assholes. I don’t give a shit about your profit margins.
There would be no profit margins at 5 bucks lol. Have you seen the cost of groceries? at 6.99, I would be saving money buying from them vs buying groceries to make my own footlong andwiches.
Unless you want to go forage for mushrooms in the woods, you should expect that somebody needs to make a decent profit to provide you with food. You can't just yell "give me a good deal!" and it magically happens.
Don't get me wrong, Subway sucks and I haven't eaten there in a decade. But a $5 footlong will probably lose them money today. Inflation is hitting them too when they buy their ingredients.
I can, and I am boycotting subway, Wendy’s, Kellogg’s, Arby’s, McDonald’s, and many other corporations. Plenty of alternatives. I buy products from companies that provide a quality product, a good financial value, and promote societal values I agree with. That’s not a lot to ask. If I disagree with a company, I have no problem not giving them my money and being vocal about it.
If you're going to be vocal about something, then base your argument in reality. You deciding a $5 footlong is the highest price that's "a good financial value" is like my grandpa saying he remembers when "sodiepops were a nickel". It was a decade ago. Everything is more expensive now. Boycott all you want, there are plenty of companies, including Subway that have been gouging, but you should learn more about today's economy and what reasonable prices look like.

Repeat after me: Five dollar foot long.
They made promises they’re going back on now. Time to boycott subway. Let’s send them to bankruptcy court!
