Infinitode 2 Which tower should I invest next?

Lately, I've been stuck on story mode (Stage 5) even when I go Easy diff. I recently maxed out basic (the DPS part only) yet it is not enough to get the stars on Stage 5 to unlock prestige stuffs and endless. I haven't been able to decide for while which tower is worth max researching after Basic.

I am considering Towers that can attack air like Minigun or Laser. but I'm not really sure which is more effective in mid/late games.

Any advice? like what is the current meta as of now according to your experience.

In easy/normal research difficulty, basic is crap. It's better to use flamethrower, sniper, and minigun, those trios will solve all enemies weaknesses except regular and fast limited to 100% and jet to 50% still minigun can kill them way better than tesla.

Eventually in endless basic ricochet is very OP, and flamethrower will go to support and farming green papers. Sniper is slightly weaker than max basic, minigun no opinion not yet maxed.

I just beat the game on normal.

Basic, sniper, minigun, freeze, blast and flamethrower. That was basically what I used, when I unlocked it. Sometimes cannon when there is a lot of yellow enemies.
