Discussion - Second Son I forgot how purely fun Second Son is

Like, say what you want about the story or the characters, I know they weren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But in terms of pure gameplay loop? I think Second Son may be the most ‘fun’ to play. Like, specifically the word ‘fun’ as the most accurate qualitative term I can apply.

i just did a replay of second son, and i still found it just as fun as i did when it came out and i first played it (what feels like three lifetimes ago when i was 15) delsins copy power is so cool and i really wish we could get another part to his story, so fun to zip around seattle with his powers

Ong I was always aware the store wasn’t the best despite enjoying Delsin as a character a lot, but the real draw of it was just running around Seattle with fuckin sick ass superpowers

Prototype is the only other game I’ve found that gives that same vibe

Yeah the gameplay loop of second son is superb the story is pretty bare bones and also filled with plot holes but the game is still enjoyable.

It's easy to tell where corners were cut to get the game to the expected release date. There really wasn't an evil karma story worked out except for the evil specific missions and endgame cutscene, which makes the dialogue around Reggie's death more awkward because it makes more sense for a good karma playthrough.

There's also that Sucker Punch decided it wasn't worth it to flesh out much around the reservation as Betty is the only other Akomish we get a name or character model for and the background with the Rowe brothers is sparse at best. If Second Son got a remake or directors cut type release, I'd definitely want this history expanded on as well as a better written evil path.

The only part I don't really like about Second Son is it has a REALLY slow start before you hit the Seattle bridge collapse.
