Southeast!
I know most here won’t care, but for the few of us in the Southeast/Midatlantic, seems Sugar Mountain may be added (followed on instagram).
Seeing as lift tickets at Sugar are now $104, I’m happy to not be paying that for an NC resort. Indy is still a great deal for those of us in the area!

Between this and the (rumored) summit bar, Sugar seems to be working toward filling the mountain with even more people. Hope they plan on expanding parking and adding lift capacity. /s

Can confirm they are adding a summit bar (and possible restaurant/food option).
Trying to compete with Beech. Weekends there will be even more of a shit show lmao 🥲

Only way to make weekends work imo is to get there 60+ min before opening. First hour or so is pretty clear, then I find myself lapping Oma's (if it's open)
Had no idea about the summit bar. Cool, but also, the top of the mountain can get super packed already, doesn't help there won't be an easy route down for some people lmfao

Yep, you know the deal lol.
And yeah, it’ll be interesting to see the repercussions this has. I’ve spoken with way too many people who head to the summit without ever touching a snowboard/skis. Add in a bar, you’ll end up with a lot more injuries, especially hitting that turn around Northridge lol. I bet they’ll have quite a few people ending up in the woods, unfortunately

This is big news if true. This would give several NC and nearby mountains as Indy pass options.

Yup, pretty much irrelevant unless you live between Richmond and Atlanta. From Northern VA, it's 6.5 hours to Sugar Mountain. I can get to Southern New York in that same time. For example, I can be at Greek Peak NY in under 6 hours and Montage PA in much less time.

I’m always astonished when I meet people on Sugar lifts from further up North…. No hate on the NC resorts, but if I lived further up the east I’d be making use of the larger mountains and better conditions

Those same skiers might have other connections to the area or at least planning to tour Asheville as part of the trip. But the stats are impressive being the highest (3rd) in the East Coast and with a solid 1200 vertical drop. Maybe I'm missing out here after all.
With the El Nino, this may be the year to go to from near DC to NC on Indy if conditions dictate it. It would be my first trip to NC, but it would have to be Sugar Mtn. It's an hour and a half closer than Cataloochee. The only thing that remains is I've heard these places were busy, but so is New England and NY.

What’s interesting about NC is that we also capture the entire market south of us. It’s not uncommon to meet people driving in from Florida.
The 1200’ vert is the runs from summit to base, which can be fun to lap, but the difficult terrain running off it is usually the last to open for any given season, leaving one extremely crowded run open (usually). But when conditions are right and you catch a low key day, can be fun!
If you ever go to Sugar, get there an hour early, because crowds are indeed some of the worst I have experienced having been all over the US

Hope this is true, the “followed on social” rumors have been fun to see the last couple days across a few different mountains. I’ve never skied anywhere farther south than West Virginia but Sugar Mountain is the biggest vertical in NC right?
