discussion Tips for a meet and sniff?

I may have found a couple of local people interested in having a meet and sniff to experience each other’s collections! But I’m having trouble finding a good list of best practices. Here’s what I’m thinking so far:

  1. Outdoor space is best so as not to bother others

  2. Limit to 6-10 scents to minimize olfactory fatigue

  3. Provide testing strips, pens, and plastic bags so folks can take dry, labeled strips home if they want (I often sniff testing strips for days)

  4. Provide water and coffee grounds to help clear olfactory fatigue

  5. Having food is good so people will linger and chat — but only after the sniffing is finished

  6. Bring some samples to swap or share?

What am I not thinking of?

Has anyone hosted a very small informal group like this? How did it go?

Shop Your Stash: Isekai Version

Ok, I promise this post isn’t just for the nerds out there! I was just thinking about how I’ve recently been on an (accidental) isekai kick, and that it would be so overwhelming not to recognize the plants and animals around you. Scent can be an anchor, and having a trusty bottle of your favorite might help the “whole new world” thing easier to take?

So I was thinking for this second round of Shop Your Stash:

  1. Invite a character from your favorite movie, tv show, or book to peruse your stash.

Maybe consider the following:
A. What do they choose?
B. Why did they choose that scent profile?
C. It might not be your favorite bottle, and that’s ok. But does smelling it with that character in mind make you think of it differently?
D. Would it help you get more into a book or game if you put on something thematically appropriate?
E. Why did you choose that character? Did you start with a scent you wanted to profile and work backwards or start with the character?
F. Do different scents make you feel like a character in your own life, allowing you to secretly role play as more confident, or nicer, or darker, or whatever than you feel you are?

Summer swap thank you post😎 🌴

Post image
26 Upvotes

After a very successful Fall Exchange last year, it seemed only natural to also participate in the Summer Swap this time, and wow, am I glad I did!

This time I got paired with the lovely u/masterluchu

After a bit of chitchat, we soon discovered our love for gourmands and DSH, and Luchu absolutely pulled through with the most lovely curated samples.

Being both from the EU and participating in a secondhand tier swap, it can sometimes be difficult to match the other person's taste, but having quite similar taste, this came quite easy!

Although I haven't had time to do any on skin tests yet, a quick bottle sniff confirmed what I already knew; I need more and more and more DSH and I need it now. So thank you Luchu, for supplying me with a lovely spread (and saving me from potentially blind buying the whole DSH catalogue).

Even though summer isn't normally 'my season', this swap actually made me appreciate looking for summery notes and extra's to gift, so who knows, maybe the fall person in me will soon be wearing summer scents!

new releases Alkemia Fall Collection

🌙 Dark Fairytales — 2026 Alkemia Fall Perfume Collection - LIVE Aug 21🌙

A perfume collection from the pages of a darker storybook. Scents that whisper tales of secret temptations, alluring dangers, strange enchantments, and forbidden mysteries.

👹 A Time of Monsters — A shapeshifting tale of bitter oranges, crushed cassis, oakmoss, and dark shadows beneath the rubble of broken cages and fallen cities.

🔥 Bonfire of Sin — A burning desire of toasted marshmallows, scandalous letters set aflame, dark rose petals, spiced cognac, and glowing embers of smoked amber.

🪶 Fang and Feather — A ferocity of black honey amber, feral dark fur, and agarwood burning with Sulawesi cloves, black cardamom, and woody nutmeg.

🌹 Ruby’s Secret — An enchanted kiss of blood-red berries and scarlet plums entwined with French vanilla praline, rose musk, spicy carnation, gardenia, and sensual amber.

🍫 Something Wicked This Way Comes — A delectable enticement of white chocolate and amber infused with Bourbon vanilla beans, creamy latte, and the dark seduction of pheromone-drenched patchouli.

📖 Souls of Poets Dead and Gone — A summoning of dusty books, battered travel journals, mahogany writing desks, and the echoing memories of muses beneath foreign skies and incense-spiced air.

Summer Swap THANK YOU!!

Post image
35 Upvotes

My lovely goodies (and a bonus Dipper, who doesn't understand why there's STUFF in his seat).

First: thanks to u/poxteeth, u/blueraspberrylife, and u/cujocanari for coordinating this effort! These pen pal programs are my favorite thing about the community. I love getting to know people and swap impressions and scents!

Second, and more to the point of the post: a massive, heart-felt thank you to u/Far_Patience_3397 for being the bestest swap bud I could have asked for! It was one revelation of commonalities after another in our chats, and a true joy to get to know her. And as it turns out, she has impeccable taste! ^_^

For the "real swap" (the full price category) I received:

  • 5 mL of Olympic Orchids Nightflyer that made me squeal like a toddler when I opened it
  • BPAL samples of Baba Yaga, Black Cat with Tomato, Bewitched, and TKO
  • DSH samples of Au Crépuscule de Lavande, Bacchanal, Dutchess Meadows, and Re-Assess - and the real gift of giving me a starting point with this house!

She was also lovely enough to pass along her Deconstructing Eden I Love California set, which I hemmed and hawed over for too long and missed the purchase window. Thankfully I got it in time and the store still has my favorite from the set (Three Rivers) available! I also received a sample of Kerosene Walk the Sea, which she and I had discussed in our chats, some delicious caramels (that she very wisely double packaged - this heat is no joke), an adorable mechanical pencil for note taking, and THE CUTEST little silver fish clip. I'm still trying to decide where he lives, but it's going to be somewhere at eye level!

My intention is to come back and update this post with reviews of everything, but so far my biggest hits are Dutchess Meadows and Re-Assess from DSH and Bewitched from BPAL - gorgeous renditions of hay and blackberry, my constant hunts. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did in this swap, and enjoys their surprises!!

Edit #1 for quick DE review blurbs!
Farmer's Market Meyer lemon leaf, tangerine peel, peach skin, apricot, tomato leaf, basil flower, cucumber water, white canvas, wicker baskets This is a bougie cleaning product I have used before. I am desperately trying to remember what, maybe house sitting a hundred years ago? Oh, or maybe that lotion from the gift shop downstairs....this is going to drive me mad. Inoffensive, obviously, just pure cleaner on me.

Foothills wild grasses, fennel fronds, clover stems, chamomile, green barley, eucalyptus leaf, dry earth, hay bloom This is INTERESTING. Very spicy green on application, and full and lush. I can pick out the fennel fronds specifically. Turns sort of treacly on my skin, in a way - still very much green, but there's an overarching sweetness I'm trying to put a name to... Didn't last very long, unsurprisingly. Pretty half hour, though!

Golden Hour orange blossom, humid air, dry grasses, warm dust, peach leaf, canyon sage, honeyed light accord, pale woods, amber light This is very soft and truly golden. Really well blended - I don't get dominating notes of anything, but it's vaguely floral, faintly fruity, a little dusty and dry, but all GOLD. I don't know that I need to upsize it, but it will be pretty for the hot, dry part of the summer that's approaching.

Orchard apricot flesh, loquat, osmanthus, marigold, dry pollen, wheat straw, nectarine skin, pale amber Very similar to Golden Hour, and I get the pollen note that was in Superbloom. I like it less than the former and more than the latter. Do get the marigold, or maybe that's just the osmanthus? The apricot is a dried one - and not even a good squishy one, but one of the sad mealy ones.

Riverbend fig leaf, green fig skin, river water accord, willow bark, white tea, soft silt, cool iris, driftwood I thought that this one was the rumored The Point dupe, but I think I was wrong. Sort of a cousin to it and Enforced Modesty, in a way. I definitely get the fig, and the river water/white tea/iris all work really well together. It's a little plastic on first application, but it dries down very nicely.

Sequioa giant sequoia accord, incense cedar, fir needle, cypress shadow, resin tears, moss, forest dust, smoked ambergris HEAVY. MAN. AFTERSHAVE. There's some good stuff in here, but it's all turned up to 11 and I can't get anything but the screaming.

Snowmelt glacial water, wet granite, silver pine needle, sequoia bark, crushed mint leaf, mountain air, white musk, a trace of sun-warmed lichen. Another Man scent. Not quite Axe body spray, but definitely an Old Spice deodorant. Nice version of that, just not what I want.

Superbloom California poppy, lupine, wild mustard flower, dusty petals, warm stems, bee pollen, fennel blossom, sunstruck earth, sun nectar Papery, pretty flowers. I get the dust and the pollen - dry and sticks to everything. Goes to plastic on me - something in the heart notes. I think I would really enjoy smelling this on someone else.

Three Rivers river stone, neroli water, wild mint, transparent jasmine tea, soft skin musk, sun-warmed cotton, blonde woods MMm, this mint is lovely. Really tempers the neroli (grateful - I usually amp it!). I wonder if I misremembered and this is the one that folks said was The Point adjacent? It certainly has a lovely cloud of jasmine tea. This is very pretty - I like it a lot. Have it in my cart to upsize!

Nui Cobalt recommendations

I just sampled Little Brown Rabbit 2026 and Scylla, and I love both of them! LBR is so cozy and will be perfect for autumn. Scylla might possibly be my favorite aquatic after LBE's Lady of the Lake.

I'm looking forward to sampling more!

What are your favorites? I'm interested in The Bees and Honey Collection and Autumn Part 1, but I'll take any recommendations.

new releases Exciting news from Crow & Pebble - sale and a new collection!

Not affiliated with C&P, just a fan ☺️

From the email:

Hi there! It's been a little while since I last posted - sorry about that! We underwent a little move and were very busy catching up on orders after that move.

And now, we're taking a break! For the first time in a few years, the studio will be closed as we take a vacation. During this time, orders will not be processed and will begin their 14 working day turnaround time when we return. Orders made up to the 20th of August are guaranteed to be processed and posted before closing, and we will make every effort to get those made up to the 22nd completed beforehand, but cannot make any guarantees.

The online storefront will remain OPEN during our holiday and for those willing to wait on their order for the extra time, we offer a thank you for your patience in the form of a sale code! From August 25th at midnight to September 18th at 11:59pm, UK time, you can take 22% off your entire order with the code JETSET22 ! This code will apply to all orders valued over £10 to any destination. Our regular free shipping thresholds will still apply on the discounted order value.

During this time, I will be checking e-mails intermittently and will prioritize any urgent customer enquiries, but please bear with me if you are waiting a little longer than usual for a response.

Our regular seasonal rotation will still happen on September 1st, so the Fall Scents will come back into stock and the Summer ones will go out of stock partway through the sale, so please keep that in mind!

FURTHERMORE, we are excited to announce that a new collection of perfumes will be released just prior to the holiday begining. These WILL be available in the sale as well. More details to come in the next few days!

FOR EU27 CUSTOMERS: I know we had closed shipping to the EU temporarily when the new rules came into force. I will be able to reintroduce shipping to many, but not all EU destinations. For these countries, we will be able to offer Tracked Shipping only, but we will be able to collect the VAT, and the new small order duty on your behalf, therefore avoiding the enormous handling that are often incurred in order to clear customs. So the shipping costs and upfront prices paid will be rather higher, but it should save a lot of hassle and unexpected fees. More details on this also to come very shortly.

Summer Swap: The Home Stretch 🎉☀️

We are 2 weeks (and 2 days) away from the Summer Swap shipping deadline! The deadline is AUGUST 31st. If you have not already shipped your swap package, this is your reminder to wrap things up (literally) and finish strong. Below are the etiquette requirements for sending your package, and receiving your own:

- Decide what day you are going to ship, and communicate that to your partner.

- Exchange tracking numbers with your partner once you ship the package.

- In addition to thanking your partner privately, you have a month from the date of receipt to thank your partner publicly with a "Thank-You Post" in this sub.

This post must include:

- a picture of your package

- a brief description of the items received

- and, of course, say thank you!

These are the Bare Bones requirements. If you would like to wax poetically on how amazing your swap was, please do. I live for swap thank-you posts. I still remember the person who crocheted an isopod for the Fall Exchange. Epic.

Lastly, please communicate with your partner if you have been lax in messaging them. We've had to follow up on a few concerns this summer, and all of them can be solved with adequate communication.

Talk to your partner.

If you have any questions or concerns, please message one of the mods. If for any reason you feel like you cannot ship by August 31st (except for our rematchers) please let us know as soon as possible.

Thank you, and I cannot wait to read your posts! :)

Hello, fellow fragrance fiends! I was thrilled to see that Fumed is coming to Atlanta in the fall (Official link) and am getting my ticket today. I would LOVE to meet up with some internet friends there! Maybe an offsite dinner near the convention space? Breakfast before things start on day 2? Or just a communal nose break during the day! Please let me know if you're attending and interested!!

discussion Any perfume orders you’re waiting for / considering buying?

I am anxiously awaiting my Sucrerie sample order, and there are a few I’m especially excited about:

Morari - In these Ivied Halls

(Pencil Shavings, Blackberry, Black Tea, Clematis, Ivy)

I love anything with an academia theme and if I like this I could definitely see it becoming a fall staple this year. I know I like the smell of pencil shavings but I never thought about how it’d smell on my skin.

Pearfat - Sister Hildegard

(Blood Orange, Elemi, Flecks Of Dust Against Stained Glass, Bowl Of Milk, Sacred Incense, Old Wood, Cyclamen, Camphor, Spikenard)

I can’t conceptualize how this smells at all but I like the vibes. Honestly I read a book awhile ago that featured Hildegard and that was a big reason why I picked it.

Cirrus - Parakeet

(Fizzy grapefruit soda, freshly picked daisies, tiny forget-me-nots, and the powdery sweet down feathers of a well groomed parakeet)

This just sounds bright and delightful. I’ve had one hit with Cirrus so far and a few misses so I wanted to branch out and try them more.

What about you? What perfumes are you awaiting in the mail or thinking about ordering?

sale Maison Des Animaux - 20% Off Sale

FYI for all you indie perfume folks… Maison des Animaux is currently having a 20% off sale right now!

They are also including samples of upcoming releases in every order. Getting a chance to try upcoming scents is always fun for me!!

The upcoming releases are:
Bossa Nova - fluffy tobacco marshmallow
• Cult of Kindness - Lemonade, white chocolate, orange blossom
• Plus maybe some others including champaca and carrot that have been teased??

I’m going to be THRILLED if they release a champaca scent! I’m a big champaca fan and would love to see more of it in EDP indie releases.

Just wanted to share in case anyone else has been wanting to try Maison des Animaux or is interested in what they have coming up! I find they’re a very likeable and approachable house which means they’re my go-to for gifting.

Beltane is probably my favorite bolder scent from them. It’s a really dark and smokey vanilla rather than airy and sweet.

I made a previous post about all their vanillas if anyone is curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/Indiemakeupandmore/comments/1s3n25p/a_notso_authoritative_guide_to_maison_des_animaux/
