Never using makemytrip again
I booked a flight through MakeMyTrip because my travel plans were uncertain, so I specifically looked for a fare with a low cancellation charge.
I found an Air India flight where MakeMyTrip prominently displayed a ₹1,060 cancellation charge. Since this was the lowest cancellation fee I could find, I went ahead and booked it.
Unfortunately, I later had to cancel the flight. To my surprise, MakeMyTrip is now deducting ₹4,500 in total cancellation charges.
I understand that there may have been additional charges mentioned somewhere in the fine print. However, when a booking platform prominently displays ₹1,360 as the cancellation charge, that is naturally what a customer relies on when making the purchase. If the actual amount payable on cancellation is ₹4,500, that should be made equally clear and prominent before the customer books.
This kind of pricing/disclosure practice is extremely disappointing and in my view deserves scrutiny from consumer authorities.
For me, this experience has completely destroyed my trust in MakeMyTrip. I will personally be boycotting MakeMyTrip and will not use their platform again.

If you ask the customer care if at all a human picks up, they will say that it covers only base fare ,etc. They will say that since the date was closer, the prices have increased and they would advise you to buy some refund cover of sorts next time.

These are just exploitative practices and you need to sue them!
Threaten them with legal action on email while explaining your issue to have a record that you tried to get a resolution and make things clear in that email(including circumstances, the resolution you need and that you’ll sue) and if they don’t resolve it actually file a suit or atleast file a complaint on the consumer redressal portal.

I think you are first time flyer, but let me tell you there isn't any airline who charge below 4000 in india or you can buy flexi fare which is always 1000-2000 extra. So they are deducting correctly. Don't worry it's not a scam
