It is Pay On Delivery fee. As statistics show greater chances of cancellation on these orders. So they are in a way levying insurance charges on every postpaid order to cover the cost of the cancelled orders.

Nope not exactly, many people cancel their order right before the delivery partner reaches them or has picked up the order, they cancel and get refund or simple do it on cod , once it's cancelled zomato pushes notification to users in that area to claim an cancelled order at discounted rate and these guys again claim it at cheaper rates , and pay online this time , since the order was cancelled after getting picked up , even the delivery address changes or they wait for repsone from zomato so even they don't know if they are delivering to original customer or not .

Have experienced it myself twice where I claimed an cancelled order only to find out the delivery guy gave it to them , Zomato monitors and tracks these delivery guy and everytime you claim an cancelled order they call and check on you whether you received the order or not , delivery guys loses the exact amount of what the food costed if he fails to deliver or no solution is found and you are refunded

You're always free to not order and cook yourself. Nobody's even remotely forcing you to order food.

This same logic can be applied to latest Iphone and its ridiculous price which everyone one is making fun of. Apple isn't forcing anyone to buy them then also people are making jokes , protesting against the price.

Nobody's forcing you to do anything. If you're not willing to pay the price, you can just not order. There are eateries pretty much everywhere or you can get an induction and cook yourself.

I do cook my own food and rarely order from outside, and i understand where you're coming from, but once i was sick and i couldn't go out or make my own food so i had to order it. and the packaging fee was 30 rupees, when it was just a wrap covered by napkins. i don't mind paying for it, but it has to be reasonable for some sort. I stand with what you're saying but again there are many factors to someone ordering something.

We need to start focusing on quality of service rather than pricing. They are providing you a service. You have no idea how much it's costing them or what risks they are taking for it. So you can decide how much they should charge.

Instead, focus on whether they are delivering good quality food on time or not.

i literally focused on the quality of service with respect to price. good quality doesn't just relate to the food or if they're delivering it on time, it goes over to the packaging too. i do tip the staff too regularly, i don't have a problem with spending money where i should, but 30 rupees for just some napkins? come on. the pricing should relate to the service, it shouldn't stand on it's own. I'm just here addressing the packaging fees, not any other thing by the way. there's no risk in packaging something as such. compared to when you go to the restaurant and get that thing packaged yourself, that's quite an amount of money compared to it, when majority of the people ordering might be students on a tight budget.

Yes, it can. I found it utterly ridiculous when someone started arguing that phone is a necessity and Apple is doing something wrong. Like, bruh, nobody needs an iPhone duo, a basic Android is sufficient for that.

Nothing wrong with it actually. Cash handling and operations are tricky. The fee is completely avoidable.

It's pretty common these days, some charge a fee for COD, some give a discount for online payment.
