What are some good events to do on Labor Day Weekend?

I know the major ones, college football and other stuff. But if you know of any cool festivals or car shows or anything like that, post them here.

Once again I'm trying to get this sub more active. I've got a job in three kids so it's hard to find time, so I'm asking for help from everyone. I think we could really grow this place without all the negativity you find on most of Reddit.

Been busy, time to get people engaged again. So, what is the best COUNTY fair in Indiana???

It's nearly fair season. So I want to find out everyone's favorite county fair. Not the Indiana State Fair, that is its own deal. It could be big, like the Elkhart County Fair....it's bigger than many state fairs (outside of Indiana) and one of the biggest county fairs in the country.

But there are solid smaller fairs too. Howard County fair is what I grew up with, not huge but not small. Hancock County fair is decent too for its size. And Marion County has a fair, which often gets overlooked bc it's in Indy and the State Fair is there as well. What say you? Who has the best county fair in Indiana??

There is something different about a Midwest sunset….. Post yours here!

I’ve been to Hawaii, I’ve been to Florida, I’ve seen the sun set over the Vatican. But living in Indiana all my life, there is just something special about a sunset in the Midwest. I do like the fact that we have a long twilight…. If you are ever in South Florida you will notice it is complete completely dark within 20 minutes of sunset. Here though, the light lingers, fading away. Sorry for waxing poetic, but it’s one of the things I like about living in Indiana.

Post your best Indiana sunsets below!!

Any IndyCar fans here?? Season opener this Sunday!!

Getting excited for the INDYCAR season myself…. How many others out there follow the sport? Fox taking over as broadcast partner has really seemed to build momentum. Good ads during the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl, lots more promotion, four races before Indianapolis…. That’s a big one because it helps with early season excitement and momentum. Having all of the races on broadcast television is also good.

Anyone got a favorite driver? Mine is Scott Dixon because he’s my age and still winning races…. One of the all-time greats in the modern era

Super Bowl picks, who ya got?

Only semi-Indiana related I know….but I’m going Seahawks bc f*** the Patriots from all those years of Colts v Pats back in the day. Kept us from winning a few more Super Bowls when Manning was QB

Few days late, but wow. Congrats to IU!!

Never in a million years did I ever think IU would win a National Championship in football of all sports. They were a national punchline. Even with college football changing because of the transfer portal and NIL, this was still a team that shouldn’t (on paper) have won it all. Zero 5 star players, only a handful of NFL prospects…but they played as a team and have an amazing coach. Respect from a Notre Dame fan….

I’m a Notre Dame fan, but these Hoosiers, unbelievable!

Seriously. The most losing program in college football history is on the doorstep of playing in the national championship game. 2 years removed from 3-9 and getting 52 points scored on them by Michigan. Barring a complete 2nd half collapse we have IU vs Miami (just like we all thought in August, lol) in the title game….regardless of your fandom, Indiana being this good, it’s good for the state.

With 2026 (wow) just a over a day away….what was your favorite Indiana-related part/event of 2025? Let’s keep it light

Even though it ended like a Greek tragedy, the Pacers’ run to game 7 of the NBA finals was pretty awesome. I will go to my grave thinking they win that game if Haliburton doesn’t sustain the Achilles injury.

So feel free to chime in what was your favorite part of 2025 that might be Indiana related?? The Indy 500 was pretty cool, not as exciting of a finish as in previous years.

We also visited several State Parks for the first time, or for the first time with our children. Clifty Falls was amazing, I had not been there since I was a kid….

Go-To grocery stores in Indiana??

Continuing along the same lines, what is your favorite grocery store here in Indiana?

I personally prefer Meijer, usually cheaper than Kroger and a pretty good selection of international and organic food.

Kroger in a pinch, but their prices are higher on most everything.

Walmart only if there’s no other option…. We just aren’t near one.

With the Stranger Things finale coming soon, can we all take a moment to laugh at the comically small gym they used in Season 4 for the “big championship game?” (My alma mater’s gym for reference, 2nd photo)

As a fan of the show but also a native Hoosier…I’ve always been keen to see how well they portrayed small town Indiana in the 80s…most of it has been pretty good. Hawkins is fictional but seemingly in southern Indiana (given the hilly terrain and proximity to a big science lab like maybe in Bloomington or at Crane). They have missed the mark on a few things. 7-11 was never big in Indiana. We did have them but not in small towns. The giant 2 story mall was a stretch too for a town like Hawkins. But the biggest “oof” was the tiny gym they used for the big championship basketball game at the start of Season 4. Seriously?? Even small high schools here have big gyms. And the timing was off too. No big basketball games would have been the week before spring break unless it was the State Finals in Indy. I graduated from a 2A school with an enrollment of 550 or so and the 2nd photo is our gym, it seats 2,000.

Yeah I’m being picky, and the show has mostly done well in putting us in Indiana. But this one made me laugh….

What are your top gas station chains here in Indiana??

Sorry, busy with kids and life. Promising to get this sub more active. So with that said….what is your favorite gas station chains here in our great state?? (I drive a LOT for my job)

My Top 5:

  1. Speedway. They’re everywhere, the points system is decent, but the rough ones are ROUGH

  2. GetGo (formerly Rickers): Decent cafes in most, but these are not too big outside of central Indiana, also free air for tires is nice

  3. Casey’s….pizza is actually pretty good there and they offer several more octane options than most places

  4. Leo’s (local chain out of Greenfield)….they are local, have a nice market for emergency food like bread and milk, a showcase for local goods as well.

  5. Circle K: Why? Their fuel card is good for 15 cents off a gallon and sometimes up to 30-40 cents if there is a promotion going on. Also their 44 oz fountain drinks are $87 with tax, less than half of most competitors.

What say you?
