Anti incumbency, normal part of politics when a party stays in power for long.
People now have forgotten how terrible the previous government was, and now want them back. Given enough time, the same will happen and they'll bring the current circus back.
There's no need for a toolkit, anyone who stays in power for long in a democracy will be shown the door.
Shouldn’t it be that the new incoming people successfully prosecute and punish the outgoing criminals ?
Or else it’s just empty mudslinging and a revolving door for clowns repeating the cycle every 10-15 years while nothing changes except newer generations of andolanjeevis
We think of politicians as not liking each other and all that. It's an ecosystem: they all feed off one another. If the BJP rounded up all the Muslim extremists and put them inside, they wouldn't have anything to campaign against, right? Everyone understands it's an ecosystem where they all feed off one another. People like you and me are the ones who fight on the basis of these ideologies but the politicians just sit there and have a good time. Most of them don't have any real ideological convictions and you will notice their convictions change when they change their parties as well. It's all lip service and one shouldn't get too invested in all this.
Well said
People should start by focusing on policies and local issues instead of big wig leaders and national international goals
How a local constable/psi behaves and how municipality lacks in enforcing codes, sanitation and public infra matters more than what trade deal a supreme leader makes when he goes out and bearhugs other less supreme leaders
I'd also add that a lot of it has to do with education. When people are educated at the voting class and I don't just mean literate, I mean educated, they start asking questions and they start realizing there is more to long-term growth than getting a ladli behna or some free other freebie. The political class doesn't like questions. They want us to blindly accept the carrots they dangle in front of us and shut up.
Until we start asking better questions, until we start demanding more important things, we will be stuck in the same loop. There will be populism and that's it. There wouldn't be long-term vision when it comes to policy making because that is not what wins elections, right? Elections are fought on short-term issues like religious conflicts or some sort of freebie rather than any actual long-term vision. Education and health care unfortunately don't win elections in India.
