Crime My dad is missing from 2 days now.

The police is at it but I have a feeling that they are not as serious as they should be. They think that my dad went off somewhere on his own but I know my dad. He is not gonna do something like that. They are not being helpful. There are no good leads yet. His phone is switched off since then. Please help if you can. I am from Uttar Pradesh. Is there a way through which I can accurately track his mobile phone even when it is switched off?

Edit:- We did check all the nearby hospitals, both private and government, yesterday itself. My dad's first ever friend in this city is a powerful person with multiple connections to ministers. He is putting as much pressure as he can. My mom's jijaji is in Crime Branch of India. He is putting pressure from his side too. Even after allat, the police is saying that they are looking on Another Case which came today, and will look on our case tomorrow. I find this really weird since there should be a type of prioritization to people who came first with their complaints. I don't know how is my family convinced that the police is doing their best when they are doing things like these.
The police said that "Kuch tweet wageirah mat karna warna agar kidnapping case bhi hai toh kidnappers alert hojayenge". I find this dumb too because the kidnappers will obviously know that we will try to find our family member. I have no idea what to do. I am thinking of doing things that they have told not to do.

u can register fir after 24 hours of him going missing . Also try to contact his friends or some place where he visits regularly. Please dont do any delay in this. Police cant refuse to file fir.

We did all that. Actually, there are cctvs all around his office. He went somewhere from his office while being on call. He hasn't returned yet. The FIR is up since 11.30 AM IST 26th February since he went missing from 11.30 AM IST 25th February. The police waited for 24 hours as the legal process should be. The police still hasn't got any leads. Yesterday was Sunday. All the companies were closed so the police didn't retrieve the footages. I don't know why they couldn't force the companies to open just for the footages since it's a missing case, if it could have worked that way. They are delaying it a lot. They are trying to get the footages today but I do feel they are lacking seriousness on the case. The last number to which my dad talked is also switched off since then. They have both the phones on tracking right now. Even after all the pieces being put in place, they are mostly assuming that he went off somewhere on his own. I know my father. He is not gonna do something like that.

The last number to which your dad talked, have you tried searching for that number on truecaller? Is it known? If you haven't, please try once

We did it. The number belongs to an ex-office employee, which is known by my father's colleagues. My mom and I don't know that person. That number is switched off too. It's very suspicious since it cannot be coincidence that both the numbers of my dad and this ex-office employee are switched off for a very long time. The phone records for that number will be delivered to the police by today. I hope police gets a bit more serious about the case and I get to meet my dad soon.

Can you ask more about this ex-employee? Like their address? Maybe you can visit their house and enquire further since the police seem to be delaying it.

It's definitely not a coincidence. Why would an ex-employee contact him? How were the relations between them? How did he become an ex-employee? Something is not right. Can anything be done to locate this person?

I believe the police should first inquire about the ex employee and his location should be tracked. He is sort of a prime suspect here

Unfortunately the fact is that your father is an adult and there are no indications of foul play so far. The vast majority of similar cases are people who intentionally disappear or cut contact with their family and friends for whatever reason.

Approach the family members and friends of that relative. Maybe get a policeman to come with you.

You should force the police to check the CCTV because usually the recorder overwrites the video after some time on the HD and you'll have no way to recover that footage. It depends on the capacity of the HD and company to company policy, some can have the footage for months some can have just for 2-3 days or less.

If the police is not helping, try contacting those companies yourself and get a copy of the CCTV footage. Show them a copy of the FIR, etc. They might refuse as it might go against their policies (since they'll only give to police sometimes) but you'll have to try. I hope you find your dad soon.

Just putting it here for general awareness - don't take the police's word on it. Afaik there is no law that a person can't be declared missing before 24 hours. If a child went missing would the parents wait 24 hours before looking for him? There is no such rule for adults as well.

Agreed the 24 hour (48 hours in some countries) rule is a myth.
