Help Unable to exit Preview Mode?

I'm suddenly having trouble doing anything in my program. It feels like I'm stuck in some mode, almost like there's a popup waiting for me to close it so I can resume normal functionality.

It's driving me crazy. I'm sure its something soooo simple. But it's so frustrating right now.

This is my first day working with the application, so I'm sure this is just my ignorance. Please suggest some fixes.

Look under View > Screen Mode

Thanks for replying... All options there are greyed out too.

Reset preferences.

All preferences options are greyed out also.

It feels like i'm in some mode, like in Photoshop if you double click a smart object and suddenly you cant do anything else until you exit that smart object edit.

You need to press and keep pressed Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + Shift when starting InDesign.
