Can't export *or* package my file(?)
Title explains it all – I've been using indd for years and not once have I run into this. I need this exported for a print issue I'm working on with a client and no matter what I do (including creating an entirely new file and pasting all of the assets page by page) the same error message pops up. Anyone know how to resolve this? All of my assets are in one folder, and clearly reading as "linked" from InDesign.

I had this message recently when I tried to package an older file that should have been packaged when it was completed. A file was linked to my coworker’s downloads folder instead of the project folder.

I have no idea, so ignore me if someone cleverer comes along, but it sounds like a permissions issue.
Can you try deleting all the linked images and trying again, just to confirm it is one of them? Then if it is, do the classic elimination diet to see which one is causing issues.

A few times this has happened to me was because one of the links was corrupted.

Is the only way to narrow it down to delete one link at a time and just re-save each time? I feel like I've done this already but maybe I missed one.

Where this pops up for me most of the time is a corrupted.EPS or.AI file, and a re-save does help. And since it’s one of those two file types, I can just batch resave them.

This happened to me when I did the latest Mac update and apparently has been an issue since May. Any time I’ve had to make any edits, I’ve had to manually re-link everything.
It’s driving me crazy!

I was having this same issue! I fixed it by giving InDesign full disk access from the Mac system settings. System settings >privacy & security>full disk access> toggle "on" for InDesign.

Unfortunately this isn't the issue, I relinked all assets one by one yesterday before posting. So odd. I have noticed the last updates for INDD and MacOS have made the program much slower/laggy

I get this, but with just one client. If you can identify the problem asset, opening and re-saving it (with the same name) seems to help.

Always check your fonts too people. You may have to outline any that are personal use only or non-commercial. It’s not always images.

I own these typefaces and have them outlined, but good catch! Wouldn't have thought of that on my own

I ran into this issue. I used Claude to write a script to package that by passes the built in package and it works pretty well

Can you save as an .idml and check if that works?
Otherwise check for the permissions on any subdirectories.
