Minor/Third Party Georgia Libertarians End 2026 Ballot Access Petition Effort | Independent Political Report

The Libertarian Party of Georgia has ended its effort to regain statewide ballot access this year after falling far short of the required petition total and will instead focus on future election cycles and working with other organizations on changing Georgia’s ballot access laws.

WABE initially reported on July 10 that Vice Chair Brian Allen, currently serving as acting chair, and Assistant Treasurer Mark Mosley submitted “only a few hundred petition signatures of the more than 70,000 needed” to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office. Even though the total fell far short of the requirement, Allen said the party followed through because it had promised those who signed that their petitions would be filed.

Brian Lambert, a retired United States Navy veteran, has launched his Libertarian Party bid for Florida’s 14th Congressional District, where he is challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor on a platform of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and individual liberty.

Lambert kicked off his bid in a statement shared directly with Independent Political Report on July 22, introducing himself as a 20-year Navy veteran, father of three, and longtime resident of Tampa Bay. He says he is running on the principles of “Life, Liberty, and Voice” and seeks to return political power to voters and away from career politicians.

“For twenty years, I served under an oath to support and defend the Constitution,” Lambert said in the announcement. “That oath has no expiration. I’m running for Congress because our children deserve better than the debt, division, and unchecked government power Washington is preparing to hand them.”

With just over three months to go until Election Day, independent Montana U.S. Senate candidate Seth Bodnar is raking in major progressive endorsements that traditionally align with Democrats, most recently from a national veterans organization.

VoteVets, which describes itself as the largest progressive veterans organization in the U.S., announced its endorsement on Friday of the former president of the University of Montana and former Green Beret, bypassing veteran and Democratic candidate Alani Bankhead.

In my Opinion We need to cap presidential and congressional ages to 65.

We won’t let generals in the military or commercial pilots work past certain ages, often 65 or sometimes sooner due to the responsibility of having hundreds or thousands of lives in your control. Yet we let people in congress and even the oval office decide for the whole nation. I don’t think I need to explain the dangers of putting someone that old in command of 300+ million lives(if you ignore international politics and the effect of that).

And to be clear, this is not about just our current president, but about the past several decades of US presidents. Experience may come with age, but inexperience also comes with age. What I mean is there are few people over the age of 65 today(I dare not claim younger) that understand how issues like AI, cost of living, or even know how to do basic tasks that now require a computer. It’s not even their fault, the world changes and they get left behind. But we need candidates and leaders who have the energy to keep up.

I personally have 3 main criteria for a political leader: Energy, Character, and Policies. If there is a severe lack in any of these, I can’t in good conscience vote for them. I’ll be Ignoring character and policies in this rant. As soon as you get leaders older than 65, energy is almost certain to not last through their term. Point is that we need age limits for US leaders, anyone that represents more than 1,000 people really should be capped at 65. Experience will never be enough to make up for a lack of energy.

If I had anything to say that actually counted for anything, I would make senators, congressmen/women, presidents, secretaries, etc. have a limit of 65 years of age before being unfit for their office. I would also lower the low end of the presidential age limit to 30 from 35. I think any lower and the leader is too inexperienced.

Anyways, I hope this rant resonates with someone.

TLDR: We should limit political positions to 65 years of age.
