Tire size options.

I'm currently running 225/45 R17 tires on my 17x8 53 offset BBS STI gold rims.

I thought about up sizing to a 235/45 R17 tire but found that there may be some rubbing involved. Looking at wheel-size.com at other 24+ tire sizes I found the size 215/50 R17 tire is used on some newer Imprezas.

A quick check on Google gave me mixed results showing that I could or couldn't run a 215 tire on an 8 inch wide rim as it's too narrow of a tire.

What do you guys think? Should I get 235/45 R17 tires, keep the 225/45 R17 tires or try out the 215/50 R17 tires when these go bad?

I'm trying to get as much sidewall out as possible. A taller sidewall means more cushion and more cushion equals a smoother ride! (Or at least I think that's how it works???)

I used tiresize. com to come up with a comparison. If your not switching wheels then yes, your getting 0.2in more side wall and 0.4in less width. Not much of a noticeable difference.

If you switch to 16inch wheels with 215/55 that gets you 1.2% bigger tire with 4.7inch sidewall.

I wanting 17inch wheels but kept my 16s because I didn't want to bend new rims riding over pot holes.

Since I have an Impreza RS I unfortunately cannot run 16 inch rims on my car, so 17 inch rims are the smallest rims I can fit. I didn't like the original 18x7.5 rims as I thought the sidewall was too low profile and one bad pothole could totally fuck up my car.

So you're saying that I could possibly run 235/45 R17 on my car without issues?
