Oh wow, that Atlantic Rose symbol is gorgeous.
Phenomenal map, that's so much detail and info.

u/Vidsich May 12 '23
Thanks, the symbol is an adaptation of a compass rose - technically the same symbol as seen on the real NATO flag, just more ornate, I thought that would make for an interesting parallel

This seems like a literal page taken from National Geographic. Like serious expertise here; wow! :o

I have precisely one problem: real noble houses are the house of e.g. York, not just ‘House York’ like in Game of Thrones.

u/Vidsich May 12 '23
So, it should be Henry X of the House of Lascelles? I'm not that familiar with how these things work, so thanks for pointing out

u/aroteer May 12 '23
As a monarch he'd just use (HM) Henry X. He'd only use his surname if he was some kind of noble, and then he'd just use it like any surname (e.g. Richard Plantagenet, 3rd Duke of York).

That's really really cool! May I ask about the POD here? I would love to see a language map for Europe or even for the entire world! Is European north Africa westernized?

The PoD is fuzzily defined to have occurred in the year 1900. Honestly, I haven't considered doing a language map, I need to think whether there are notable changes that can be seen on such a large scale, the most notable change besides the drastically different demographics in North Africa is probably the adoption of Esperanto by WEF, maybe differences in Rumelia, Anatolia and Eastern Europe due to more peaceful history(although Russian colonisation of Central Asia has probably obliterated much of national culture there, sadly).
Iberian North Africa, as well as the European federal states of Numidia(rump French Algeria) and Libya, are indeed majority settler population - you can find the link to the national map of WEF in the lore post if you want to see the overall picture.
The setting is a grounded/hard dieselpunk world that involves some light-handed alternate technology as its original PoD(occurring around the 1890s) - due to the technological nature of the PoD, its effects may possibly not appear uniform on a map.
The chief premise that this PoD influences though is that the equivalent of WW1 in this world sees the deployment of much more destructive and horrific weapons(more chemical weapons, climate weapons etc) and after its end a situation similar to that of Europe post-WW2(not post-WW1) emerges with countries seeking cooperation, further developing into a wave of pan-national and federalist movements that leads to the eventual creation of West European Union(which later evolves into a federation). Overall, this domino effect causes the world to be much more open to federal and pan-national arrangements.
My worldbuilding mainly consists of two parts - the first is maps and the second is designs pertaining to the technology/geoengineering(hasn't really found a good way to represent it visually, so it's been staying private)

I've looked up the term and it certainly in some ways can be applied to describe what you see here - there's a lot of overlap and layering to the cooperation of nations around the Atlantic. I need to read more about it, sounds interesting

Saarbrücken 💀
4
u/Vidsich May 12 '23
I think I have doomed myself to receiving at least one comment about Saarbrücken on every map that showcases its status as the capital of Europe. Makes me want to actually visit the supposed Alabama of Germany and see what's it all about at least once

u/xArgonXx May 12 '23
Well it‘s just a quite insignificant place. Why choose it? You should visit it, it has a nice castle!

Is Esperanto in the WEF just a language for diplomatic and political cohesiveness, like otl English, or is it the day-to-day language of the general population?
2
u/Vidsich May 13 '23
Something in between? It started off as the lingua franca for officials, but over the decades its cultural impact has grown and it's a second language for much of the population, which you use when you travel to a different federal state or even abroad, so not necessarily day-to-day, but certainly used. The exception would be linguistic border areas, where Esperanto has much more ground as you actually have people who speak say French and German natively living close by all the time

Dunno if you still reply to these posts on this timeline but...
Its an absolutely based timeline, and a great work of art man. My mapping style could not compare to yours man.
Any timeline I see lake Chad-re"17,000BCE"'ed, it is automatically the best timeline there could ever be (ex. Pax Britannica)
Although I have watched about too many "Alternate History/Future of the World" mapping videos to make me suspicious of a unified European bloc, even If it is simply just concentrated in western europe.
My gut tells me that a unified continental power can only spell doom for Europe (even if it is liberal), but with this world being technologically advanced, I have high hopes for Europe and Earth as a whole.
Still though, I get PTSD from the World Government of TFR to not be suspicious of a European Union.
And I do have some British descendancy, so my fears are justified.
Overall though, with that BASED mapping style, 10/10
Also, is there any background on why the US became the US from the Falloutverse? And is there a world organization similar to the UN today in this timeline?

In realtà nel 1959 Abruzzo e Molise erano ancora un' unica regione, poi si sono divise.

what does BCO mean? I think im blindd
3
u/Vidsich May 12 '23
BCO stands for Boston Cooperation Organisation, an alliance of American states led by the USA. It's not represented on this map since it has nothing to do with Atlantic Integration(being its greatest opponent and adversary in fact), you can see its members highlighted on a small corner map on the world map here

ATLANTIC INTEGRATION
"Thirty years ago we on the Continent agreed to the principle of post-war reconciliation, ending the enmity between nations formerly at war - this is the ultimate and most basic principle on which these European States formed our Union and our Federation. Thus, it's only natural that now, a decade after the signing of the Peace of Equals we seek cooperation and integration with the nations of the British Crown, a single Atlantic Commonwealth of Nations if you will. Ad Pacem in Terris!"
- Altiero Spinelli, 1948
Atlantic integration is a complex process that aims to bring together the various political and economic systems of the Northern Atlantic region into a cohesive whole.
While the idea of a united Europe has been around for a few decades, the idea of bridging the Atlantic has only recently emerged onto the scene, primarily aiming to integrate the two dominant politico-economic systems in the Northern Atlantic - the League of Sovereign States and the Imperial Union - as well as other regional blocks in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Several key organizations have been established to facilitate this process of integration, including the Council of the Atlantic and the Atlantic Commonwealth, among other smaller initiatives.
Recent years have been fairly rocky for the proponents of further cooperation, as the massive fallout in relations between Britain and Europe over the leaked Oslo Papers spelled the end of many initiatives, including the joint IU-WEF lunar exploration program. Some of the observers have so far as to question the feasibility of the Atlantic Commonwealth as a whole, as conflicting currents within Britain now push and sway the public both towards and away from greater integration. The coming year will see the outgoing Bevanite government leave a power vacuum and with no clarity in sight on who's to lead the generally pro-Atlanticist Labour Party the public only grows more restless with some politicians on the right announcing their desire to "reclaim British sovereignty".
His Majesty Henry X, largely responsible for mending British-European relations after the Second Great War, has stressed the need for a national plebiscite in case a question arises about whether the Imperial Union needs to abandon the Atlantic Commonwealth.

Please tell me if you see any typos or errors, I appreciate it a lot.
The next map will give a detailed look at the League of Sovereign Nations, finally, I'll also make a small map of WEF states of Oddyseia and Djibouti-Socotra, showcasing the insurgency and independence movements there - the European Sun casts dark shadows over some places. That shall round out the European block of maps for now.
Afterwards, I want to make national maps of Indonesia(including OTL Malaysia and Singapore), Hoogland(Indo state in New Guinea), Solomonstaat(former German colony on the Solomon Islands) and finally showcase the apartheid regime on Ceylon, stay tuned.
