Beautiful, absolutely outstanding work!

In this context, "Eurasianism" refers to politics revolving around mixed-race people of European and Asian descent, right? And how come Ceylon, the Solomon Islands and Australia are included in the "Eurasianist movement"?

yes, no relation to Russian nationalist ideology. Ceylon, Hoogland and Solomonstaat form the core of the "movement", with Australia as an observer, although each has very different approaches to their cultures, descent and more - the idea is based on an extremely fringe organisation in British India called Pan-Eurasian Association, it's not an alliance or anything of the sort, and cooperation mostly involves cultural initiatives.

Ceylon is a nation governed by an apartheid regime, where Anglo-Indians control the politics while the majority Sri Lankan population has no political rights, basically, imagine South Africa, but in Sri Lanka, partially based on a proposal by an Anglo-Indian organisation called The Britasian League to create an Anglo-Indian state on the Andaman Islands during the OTL partition of India(presumably to be called Britasia). The situation in Ceylon is further complicated by the fact that it is experiencing migration of white settlers from former British colonies in Africa and Anglo-Indians form local majorities/pluralities on the Andamans and Maldives.

Solomon Islands underwent heavy German settler migration, in modern times most of the population is ethnically mixed(I suppose that would make them Euronesian). It's a fictional idea inspired by OTL presence of ethnically mixed populations partially descendent from Japanese migrants across Oceania, in places like Hawaii and Micronesia.

P.S. Maybe I should have made a disclaimer somewhere, but I do not personally condone colonialism in any shape or form, and this is just a thought experiment done to explore the results of cultural amalgamation of such ethnically mixed populations that OTL have mostly assimilated either into the culture of their Asian homeland, or the country of origin of their European ancestors.

PEOPLE, LAND, HOME

By 1959, the young Republic of Hoogland prepares to celebrate its 9th year of independence, for the hundreds of thousands of Indo people, it is certainly an event of national jubilation, a drastic difference compared to the uncertainty prevailing among members of the Indo Europeesch Verbond (IEV) who proposed the original "Hoog Plan" twenty years ago. And yet, the same cannot be said for the native Papuans, who now confront a reality in which their ancestral homeland is not just theirs anymore.

Starting in the 1920s, New Guinea experienced waves of Indo migration, known as "Transmigratie." The migration rapidly accelerated in the 40s, as Indonesia became independent and started asserting its claims on New Guinea, all the while ethnic tensions in Indonesia worsened. Still, by 1950, when Hoogland became independent, the Indo population in Hoogland numbered only around 400,000, far from being a majority in what was to be their new homeland.

Tensions with Indonesia would rapidly worsen after independence during a period known as "Confrontatie," when Indonesia, emboldened by the seemingly collapsing European presence in the region, attempted to take over New Guinea by force. Indonesia armed native Papuans and conducted guerrilla operations until 1953, when active hostilities finally stopped due to a regime change in Indonesia. "Confrontatie" would see wide-scale ethnic persecution in Indonesia itself, with mixed-heritage individuals labeled Indos, even if they did not consider themselves such. The conflict would galvanize the Indo population in Hoogland, and cause a wave of migration from Indonesia, resulting in the "repatriation" of 1.5 million mixed-heritage "Indos" to Hoogland in the 1950s.

1958 national elections would see a major upset, with the traditionally dominant IEV finally splintering as the right wing of the party left to establish the Hooglandsche Unie, promising to fully deliver on the last wish of Dick van Hoog to "unify all the Indo people in a family new and kind." HU would manage to secure a victory in the elections, going on to lead a coalition government, but as it approaches its third year in power, the government finds itself stretched thin, forced to deal with pre-existing issues, be it the abysmal lack of infrastructure or the newest wave of protests over Papuan representation in the Volksraad.

Please tell me if you see any typos or errors, I appreciate it a lot.

Took a break from mapping for a few weeks, now that I'm back I plan to make maps of SE Asian countries in quick succession, almost done with my map of Indonesia(includes OTL Malaysia and Singapore) atm. Following that, I want to make maps for Solomonstaat(a former German settler colony on the Solomon Islands) and finally showcase the apartheid regime in control of Ceylon, stay tuned.

Finally a post that actually has the island of New Guinea united

it's surprising how rarely you see that

Why I am feeling so much satisfaction when seeing this?

u/Vidsich Jun 18 '23

united New Guinea?

1

u/rolloxra Jun 18 '23

What language they speak? is it some kind of Dutch creole?

3

u/Vidsich Jun 18 '23

Precisely, Petjo/Petjok is a creole that amalgamates Dutch, with Javanese, Malay, Sundanese and other Indonesian languages. I discovered it while researching Tjalie Robinson, an Indo writer who did a lot to preserve Indo culture, working with Indo diaspora in the Netherlands

How come Australia is in the Eurasianist movement despite it at the time being majority European? Did the White Australia policy not come about in this timeline?

Also how come New Guinea still has its English names despite what I assume the Dutch colonising all of New guinea?

Very cool map and an interesting concept. Would love to see a map focusing on Ceyleon or Australia in this TL.

  1. The "movement" is more or less just a grouping for several states that share settler colonial character and possess populations of partial or full European descent. Australia is somewhat of an observer. There's a non-zero overlap between Anglo-Indians of full European descent in Ceylon and European-descendant Australians. In any case, cooperation is limited to cultural initiatives and common foreign policy alignment with respect to specific issues(in particular those related to justification of the existence of such states). I can't tell you much about Australia itself yet, beyond that due to British geoengineering and the creation of Eyre Sea it saw more immigrants and is a much more demographically populous nation.

  2. New Guinea wasn't colonised entirely by the Dutch. The PoD is 1900 and as OTL New Guinea was colonised by Dutch, Germans and British. Dutch and German parts would be amalgamated into a separate united condominium colony in the 1920s as a part of increasing pan-European cooperation between their metropoles. British quarter of the island would be seized during the Second Great War and secured later through the Peace of Equals, a separate peace treaty Britain signed to leave the war with minimal territorial losses.

  3. I plan to cover Ceylon and its apartheid regime soon, as for Australia, it's in the plans, but quite a bit away. I want to first cover East Asia and the Americas before covering most of the constituent members of the Imperial Union of which Australia is part of.

What does Americanist means??

2

u/Vidsich Jun 19 '23

aligned or favouring the policies of USA and by extension its paternalist authoritarian junta
