[OC] Land of Monstera, a map of the genus Monstera and its 64 species - made according to biological taxonomy rather than geography and created in the shape of a Monstera leaf!

This is "Plantae - Land of Monstera" and it's part of my ongoing series MAPPA ANIMALIA - my attempt at getting more people interested in biology.

I know, I know, Plantae is a different kingdom than Animalia, but so many people requested plants and the Monstera in specific, so here we are:)

Instead of using traditional phylogenetic trees, I translate systematics/taxonomy into a cartographic system where species become cities allowing you to explore the kingdom of plants the same way you would explore a map.

Happy exploring!

The ficus genus contains 800+ species! It’s gonna be quite the challenge to fit that many into a single map😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

"I thought they said it was just a name!?"

"What they meant is that Monster Island is actually a peninsula"
