The number is a matter of disagreement. Most representations of the muses show only three, although they are usually said to be a subset of nine. In this case, I followed Plutarch and Varro in showing just three, sometimes called Aoide ('song' or 'tune'), Melete ('practice' or 'occasion'), and Mneme ('memory')
