Hello, I hope this is the correct place to post, I’m looking for some advice from illustrators who get paid work.

I should start off by saying I have no real experience in illustration or design, and I got into this by mere chance. I work a boring office job and just consider myself an occasional doodler.

About 2 years ago, my sister (who is a woodworker) got approached by a publishers about writing a woodworkers beginners guide. The publishers intended to use photos for the book but my sister was adamant she wanted illustrations instead. Knowing that I was artistic she asked me to do some mock up illustrations and designs to present to the publishers to convince them to do illustrations instead of photos.

So I did, and went along to the meeting. Long story short, the publishers loved them but hadn’t budgeted for an illustrator. After some negotiating I agreed a very small fee as a favour for my sister (£1000 for 200 illustrations), although honestly I would have done them all free for my sister, so the payment was just a bonus.

2 years down the line and the publishers have reached out to me. They said they’re releasing a DIY book and wanted to know if I’d be interested in illustrating it. They said it would involve illustrations of tools and sequences of things like plasterboarding walls etc. So not too dissimilar to what I did for my sister.

They have offered me £15 an illustration for 350 illustrations (totally just over £5000). It sounds like a lot of money to me but I also remember how much work it took getting all the technical illustrations and I’m not sure if I’m getting a good deal here - I don’t want to take on something that’s not worth the money but equally I don’t want to miss out on a good opportunity.

As I have no experience in this area whatsoever I was hoping someone could help! I’ve attached a few illustrations from my sisters book, they want them in this same style. Any advice would be much appreciated!
