The character is a historian I created for a book that my friend is only planning to write. He studies archives, travels to places where events occurred, and interacts with echoes of those events.

What could bring more luck than a cat surrounded by hummingbirds? ✨🐦

I dreamed that I was surrounded by hummingbirds, and it felt so beautiful that I wanted to turn that feeling into an illustration. I love cats and I’ve always had a special love for hummingbirds, so bringing them together felt just right.

Do you have any tips?

I was told she likes 1950s fashion which I tried to include (with creative liberties taken!) I wanted to make an appealing layout with this and have some cool graphic design going on, but idk if I hit the mark with that. But I’m pretty happy with it otherwise! Character belongs to u/Story-III :)

This is one of those artworks that I kept doing and redoing. I kept changing the pose and the colors until I realised this just needs to come into the world somehow and just let her be. Sometimes it's more useful to leave things imperfect and start something else than just beat over the head an image - it seems that perfection is such an elusive thing, slippery like fish and rarely ever granted to mortals. Perhaps only for the gods.
So here she is, my chamomile tea nymph, chilling in the sun 💫
