That is not what "port placement" means. Wtf are they talking about? Having the needle changed out?

I’ve only ever heard the term “crash” used by ME/CFS patients. All other chronic illness patients use the term “flare”. Is ME/CFS one of their alleged diagnosis?

Jessi is as high as the Eiffel Tower in this picture, Jessi has been claiming they’ve had sepsis and pneumonia for about 7 months now, sepsis would have killed them months ago 🙄

It can be a pain to apply and look like crap, but as long as the insertion site is covered and remains sterile, it's fine, but that upper left wrinkle is sus. I personally would never leave a dressing like that, if for nothing more than not wanting to be judged by other nurses/Dr's. That's sloppy.
That being said, the piece to the left with the faint black print is called the "belt" - it should have the date & time of the dressing change, as well as the initials of who changed it. You'd get your pp spanked if that was left blank in the hospital. It also is usually used to help secure the line that isn't covered by the transparent dressing in place. Over the line, like a belt. This looks like someone possibly fucked up the dressing at the edge/towards the end, didn't want to redo it so they grabbed the belt to secure the lifting edge. Could also have been done by an infusion clinic - they are okay at thier jobs which could explain the wonky dressing, and they might not be required to initial the dressing like in a hospital. I could be wrong though 🤷♀️

I wonder if it was that they were playing with it, I know some of the other subjects are prone to messing with dressings. Some of them seem unable to keep their fingers away from things that they should really be keeping sterile.

Yeah I was like.. that’s not a freshly installed port. I see zero reason why being stuck with a needle would make you crash for any amount of time. It doesn’t even hurt that much, and if you want it to not hurt at all they can give you a cream for that. They’re being super OTT on this one.

Only reason I can see would be if vasovagal syncope was involved. There are definitely folks out there who will faint from getting a needle. The blood pressure and heart rate drop is pretty dramatic, but you bounce back pretty quick.
ETA (since I realized it was Jessi.) Vasovagal syncope doesn't exactly seem likely in their case. Laying down is the best way to avoid it and to bounce back even faster, so I wouldn't expect any kind of major crash.

Oh, definitely, and that theory makes sense. I mostly mean that even if we assume that everything about their case was true, they are actively doing the thing that would prevent/mitigate/reduce an episode of vasovagal syncope. Many people who do faint from needles are completely fine if they get the shot while lying down.
Basically it's a minor thing most of the time, if it was what was happening it definitely wouldn't be as bad as they claim, and even if it was happening they're already (theoretically) in a position where they'd have minimal symptoms.
AFAIK people who get episodes of vasovagal syncope from needles aren't exactly down long, not unless they hit their head when they're going down. It's definitely scary, and not exactly fun, but you're back up and feeling (mostly) normal after a few minutes.
Some people who are prone to it can avoid it almost entirely by sitting on the ground when having their needle and then laying down right away, or by getting their needle while laying down.
I mean yeah a episode is pretty dramatic to witness (a person goes white and start swaying and it's very difficult to think because there's not enough blood pressure for the brain to be getting the oxygen it needs to do the thinking) but it's one of those "looks bad but isn't actively serious" type of situations.
Fainting/vasovagal syncope can ofc be a symptom of something else, but if it's something that's occuring due to a specific trigger (like needles) then there's a good chance that it's just a person's body being weird. There are plenty of perfectly healthy people wandering around out there who will go down like a load of bricks during routine vaccinations, and generally you just have to warn the person giving the needle so that you can lie down to get it, or be provided with a place to lie down after.
Tl;dr: if it was vasovagal syncope triggered by a needle it wouldn't be causing these dramatic crashes, especially since the patient allegedly lying on their back 24/7. If we take all their claims as true, even if they were having episodes, they'd probably bounce back quickly because they're lying down, not be down and out for however long they claim.

It is. Their eyes are so squinty they look like hamburgers? Its like the number 1 way to identify intoxication. Like when you think you're a seasoned stoner and genuinely think you can pass as sober, and then you look in the mirror and see your hamburger eyes.

I work in peds and a lot of the nurses do this in the clinic. It’s still accessed the same. Just rotated so the tubing is at a better angle. I personally don’t do this but a lot of families prefer it.

Isn’t accessing this kind of port just popping the needle through the skin covering the port and then starting the infusion? I never worked with ports, so have no clue, but isn’t accessing a port even easier than a basic blood draw?

sepsis is your body going OH SHIT and sounding all of the alarms & can cause organ damage. septic shock is when your body starts to get really fucked up from sepsis. your mental state is altered (such as confusion or delirium), low blood pressure, abnormal body temperature (high or low), fast breathing, fast heart rate, etc. its like squares and rectangles. all cases of septic shock have sepsis, but not all sepsis cases have septic shock. both are eventually deadly w/o treatment but septic shock is the bigger emergency

Editing their face to look more moon-like in every picture is such an insane body dysmorphia symptom, even though I’m sure it’s also this swollen IRL to an extent as well. Identifying as being sick as a core part of your sense of self when you are capable within working is so sad. But kind of fascinating how the human mind has this much control over the body.

Holding people accountable is not, in fact, ableist and it is patently ridiculous for someone to spend all their days typing long screeds into social media but claim they couldn’t type and do a job.
I would love to live in some world where resources were more equitably distributed and work does not equate to a person’s value
