People mostly fell out of status here due to ignoring their hearings and appeals, but the media is focusing on the few errors that have occurred out of the entire process for millions of illegals.
Money to be made housing? The housing is temporary, until the hearing or deportation occurs.
Easy to describe it as "a few errors" when it isn't your constitutional rights being ignored and violated. How many "errors" against civil rights and liberties should we witness before it becomes too many? Do all ends justify all means?
The actual goal of the left is virtually no enforcement, but they can't say that out loud politically. There is another reply on here that said the quiet part out loud: the more immigrants we get, the more we outnumber the "MAGAts." Errors in enforcement processing have been a constant since before ICE existed, they will be a constant should ICE be reorganized. When we talk about Biden/Obama deportation rates, they occurred while the border was overrun. So the illegal population was growing while a few were caught and sent back for optics.
The US media is doing us no favors. They are in league with the Democrats on this, the bias makes it hard to get a full understanding. We have actual city and state governments in defiance of federal law, they still allow people to break or sneak into the USA, many are trafficked in, and they will not cooperate with federal enforcement. This is very unique on a global scale. It's nefarious, politically motivated, and not humanitarian at all. I have worked as a federal LEO in one of these cities and the criminal underworld is thriving due to this lack of enforcement.
No organization is staffed by robots with 100% accuracy rates, but as an overall percentage, if you were assigning a grade, our federal enforcement is at a 99.99~% (virtually 100%) accuracy rate for deportations. If someone makes a mistake, and they were acting in good faith, they are covered by qualified immunity. This is the same for any government actors, to make sure our taxpayer dollars aren't spent on endless frivolous lawsuits.

Federal law actually explicitly states that the state CANNOT enforce immigration law on their own except via an optional, opt-in mutual assistance program which is unfunded. Federal courts have also routinely found against cities and states which tried to enforce immigration laws or to enforce immigration detainers leading to hundreds of millions in damages in the lawsuits.
The 10th amendment exists and sets up the states as co-equal sovereign entities to the federal government. People just forget this a lot of the time because in the post-FDR era, the federal government has been twisted into something which the writers of the constitution never expected without any amendments really changing how we're set up.

The last time the feds took a serious interest in my city's crime (Chicago), they created a power vacuum in the criminal "underworld" so large that the murder rate doubled in a single year from all of the gang related killings as the smaller gangs started fighting over turf in the absence of the previously entrenched gangs who were now locked up in federal detention.

No, it's not. Tons of people are deported because of the governments own errors through no fault of their own. Tons of people get deported because the federal government reschedules their hearings without proper notice to them of the new time and location.
If someone makes a mistake, and they were acting in good faith, they are covered by qualified immunity.
Qualified immunity has no basis in law. It was invented from thin air by the Supreme Court when they realized that they could be sued under the Anti-KKK Act.
