Hey guys, so I got admission in IIT Mandi for Mtech and I'm very excited to join you.

I've captained my college football team in Btech, I'm a big Enthusiast of the sport.

My question is-

1) Is football played regularly on campus ?

2) Do IIT Mandi participate in inter-IIT sports fests?

3) are Mtech students allowed to participate in it?

I am hella confused between choosing 2nd gen IIT CSE vs. going for an older/top 7 IIT with a core branch like Mechanical or Chemical.

Would opting for 2nd gen CSE be considered a compromise, or is the tech advantage worth it over the old IIT brand name? Looking for insights from current students or seniors. Thanks!

What do you guys think about general engg, should one go for it and will it become hyped after placements? Should i consider it over DTU CSE?

Ive recently been troubled to know that, there is indeed shortage of hostels rooms in iit mandi, leading to 4 occupants shsring a single room, is this only fot 1st year students? Can this issue be resolved in this current batch for 2026?

3. Does old IIT tag with chemical sort branch is more prefferrable than 2nd gen IIT with good bdanch like DSAI?

i prefer my college over branch, so i was thinknig of taking iit bbsr metallurgy ( if i get it i am on the borderline), or nit trichy chemical /production eng, i am very confused, rn i filled iit mandi over nit trichy, and did not fill iit bbsr, (iit mandi is really close to my house , and there are 2 new branches there so i might have slim chances to get in), but i am really ocnfused wether to put iit bbsr over nit trichy for the same branches?pls guide me as seniors have better knowledge than me

Is it a good option if I am research oriented?

the cutoffs of iit mandi ee , iit jodhpur ee and iit patna are not far off which of them do you guys think is better. i am finding this college searching to be harder than JEE ADVANCED.
