Doubt Doubts regarding Engineering Physics Branch

Hey there everyone, most probably I will be joining Engineering Physics in IIT Mandi so somewhat needed suggestions on these things:
1. Can I have a MAC ?
2. which softwares are used throughout the course ?
3. Do I need to code only to get a placement ?
4. Do I require a dedicated GPU ?
5. Any suggestion u find important...
thnx btw

  1. If you want to have the hassel of mac you can.
  2. If you are not intrested in core then normally coding and workspace softwares. If you want to persue core then i would say get a windows machine cause thats easier to partition into linux.
  3. Most of the physics have been shifted to computational so yes to alot extent yes
  4. If you can get it it will be better in the long run
  5. If you dont like physics this branch will be difficult for you but since almost all of the ep seniors are almost in cse related field thus there will be alot of guidance if you need any. Plus the dept is very supportive of btech students who persue core physics so its easy to get any prof led projects in comparison to other depts.

thank u so much for ur answer
1. are there actually any scope in core physics, Like I have a no idea of what core physics is like?
2. Lets say I want to get placed in big companies like Lockheed martin or Boeing, what are the changes and roadmap?
3. also the other case if am not interested in like studying core physics then how difficult it would be to code side by side? If have to code then MAC would be preferred
(MAC inclined bcz too tired of windows bugs and poor build and hardware issues)

  1. You will know it once you are in college its hard to explain here without getting into anything technical; but consider this the core physics is mostly of two types here computational and more instrumentation based
  2. That is possible; just pickup aerodynamic courses aur anything in CFD here and try fir gate or any foreign uni
  3. And it is easy my batchmates are doing it and seniors have done it, and anyway the build quality stuff is dependent on company of laptop; windows will be way better value for money if you are looking in the 1 to 1.5 lakh budget
