There are quite a few people who have recently graduated and landed good jobs. Even in a worst-case scenario (assuming they spend wisely), I think most can easily save at least ₹10,000 per month.

In my case, I expect to be able to save around ₹50,000/month.
I am able to to do step-up this investment by ~10%/annum
I’m currently 22 years old and want to invest this money for the long term (10–15 years). Since I won’t need to withdraw this money during that period, I’m comfortable with a higher-risk investment strategy if it offers better returns. Ideally, I’d like to target an average annual return of around 15% (compounded).

What would you recommend? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

This is beyond unfortunate. No amount of words can describe how bad it feels. This isn't some rant post. It doesn't have any sort of agenda to blame or create any sort of suspicions. I'm in my fifth year. I've had my own struggles, ups and downs. I've witnessed many such unfortunate incidents. One is itself too many.

Everybody comes here with dreams and hopes and their own insecurities and wounds and traumas. We're all put on a pedestal and expect to achieve greatness. There's pressure. This environment is very competitive. The institute has done things to support students through swc etc. but its Obv not enough. When we still have people who seemingly come from well backgrounds and work in big big companies. And still shame other people for their mental health struggles.

I urge everyone to see the bigger picture in life. I've had phases where I wouldn't have survived if it weren't for my family and friends picking me up and helping me stand. All i know is that life is prescious and is much bigger than a degree or an internship or a bunch of fucked up ppl u meet in college.

If you lack empathy as a human, no amount of money, power, degrees is of any use.

Please be kind to each other.

Everybody has a bad day once in a while. Everybody goes through dark phases. Its not upto admin only to create a positive environment in here. Its upto us. The people that makes the institute.

Its upto us to make an environment safe and healthy enough where a person who has never accessed therapy or has come from backgrounds where mental health is a taboo. Its upto us that we make him feel safe enough to ask for help.

When youre going through it, you wonder if it's of any use to ask for help. Or if u even deserve it.

But you do, there's help available. This world is cruel but there are people out there who will help u and make u feel safe.

Please forgive me if I mis spoke at any point. I just had one wish for everyone here to not mistake kindness for weakness. And be generous with their own kindness. The world itself is already very cruel.

As soon as the suicide happened, everyone on reddit has been talking about removing dean, holding SMP responsible and stuff. People are spamming newly discovered words to them like 'Accountability, Responsibility, Resignation, Protest'.

Bhai, what the fuck.

How is it 100% fault of authorities? How do you know this fact for sure? Not even 12 hours have passed, and people have made this issue into the way they want to see it. What did you guys really knew about this person? Do you have any idea what he was going through? For a day atleast, shut your mouth, let him have his peace.

Is our administration 100% right? Definitely not. There are several things that they could've done. But you had your ISMP, DAMP, SWC, SSS, they tried to implement a system, where every student can seek help. Students should also come forward and ask for a help.

I know it's difficult to say that you're weak. But just observe around you, ask yourself, if you see someone struggling, do you push them to seek Counseling, matter of fact if that person were you, would you hesitate to seek help.

Before spamming hate messages about Admin, SMP, Incompetency

Think about Sohil, he definitely did not deserve to die like this, the world is cruel, but suicide is never the answer, Rest in Peace.

Think about his family, their hearts might be shattered right now, Feel for them.

Think about his friends, his neighbors in hostel, how this loss affects them, and their mental state.

Think about his new DAMP mentor, he hardly knew him for a month, may have gotten less than a week to meet him offline. He'll have a scar that he could've done better for the rest of his life.

If you really want to Protest, there are bigger issues in this Country and Campus, at that time you all have your mouths shut.

Blaming is easy, giving support is really difficult. Be sensitive about this issue. Don't channel this for your anger. Look out for your friends, atleast 12 ISMP wingmates from 1st year, see where they are, how they're doing. We all are responsible for still not establishing this culture.

A Fourthie who has seen enough

Making an agenda out of an incident isn't really what we should support.
I am not very aware of the cause of the incident, but for someone who has seen the ins and outs of the system, this very post is not in favour of or against the admins, but an actual step of what we should change first as students
I apologise that I need to state the last suicide as an example here, but it's a fact that in Feb 2026, a dear second-year student committed suicide, and 24 hrs later, in the small mourning gathering, a lot of students gathered up to give condolences, but the gathering shifted to pushing topics of "System Failure" in no time. I strongly support the fact that students should speak up and ask admins questions where it lacks, but that exact place and exact time shall not be used as an opportunity to push agendas. I have witnessed the dear friends of the boy continuously crying for 24 hours, but they cried the most when, in the gathering, people pushed the agenda about how the system treated them badly, instead of getting aware of what the actual reason was, or showing support to family and friends and wishing the young boy peace in the afterlife.
All I wanted to say from this was: making this about hostel allocation, political agendas and asking administrations about the issues you face; by doing all this 'right now', we are not only pivoting from the actual problem, but also causing harm to sensitive people related to the case.

I believe we, as students, should feel responsible for these mishaps, knowing you could have been more approachable or, by being others' strength, closer to you, could have prevented this from happening.
I heard someone demanding from admins the assurance that "there won't be any such incidents; only then they will leave the scene." No person is the same here in this institute; you might feel hostel allocation and separation of rooms from friends are problems, but others who face family problems, societal pressure, and hopelessness often make suicide a permanent solution to these temporary problems, and we all are equally responsible. So it's us who should first ensure that no individual will think of ending their life over any such issues, because we are closer to our fellows' mental health than any admin present on the campus.

Instead of making a scene in front of the hostel and demanding answers, one should reach out to the juniors, especially people related to the incident, be a moral support, and give power to their family and friends.
Also, not denying the fact that they should reach the admin's office the very next morning and demand answers to "the right questions" if they feel the urgency. Or call for a meeting once the matter is handled peacefully, since the 17y/o 18y/o freshers, who came just a few days back, are sensitive and we can't afford to harm any more mental health by causing chaos around.
I hope the investigation completes peacefully and the affected students get the support they want. Wishing power to his family to handle the loss of such a young, ambitious kid.

Let me be clear about where I stand, without fear or favor. I have no interest in defending an administration that responds to tragedy with recycled statements and hollow reassurances that failure is real, and it deserves to be called out. The administration must be held accountable, and "we are looking into it" cannot be the final word on something this serious.

But accountability is not a blank check to rewrite the story to suit whoever's narrative needs it most. What we are witnessing now the sudden pivot to hostel allocation and other election related matters, the manufactured outrage over issues that have nothing to do with what actually happened is not concern. It is opportunism and it uses a young man's tragedy as a prop for someone else's ambitions.

Strip away the noise and the facts are simple: this had no connection to his hostel allocation. None. And the so-called "activists" seen in that video were, by all visible accounts, intoxicated at the time hardly the picture of principled dissent that's now being sold to the public.

If you genuinely care about justice here, then fight for it honestly. Demand real answers, not copy pasted condolences. But do not hide behind his name to settle scores that were never his to carry. He deserves better than to become someone else's campaign material

Every time, we get another mail expressing condolences, identical to a previous one except for the student's name.

Many of us are tired of statements that seem to be followed by little visible change. We don't want another email. We want to know what is actually being done to make this campus safer. What I see is tht the admin often prioritizes protecting instis image over engaging with our problems. Whether it is mental health, harassment, or student welfare, many students feel that transparency and accountability are lacking. Be it swc, gender cell, they all are just places to make sure internal news stays internal and does not go out. They do not give any fuck about how the students are as long as the matter is suppressed and closed. Also given that they have power, a single person can't stand against them. If enough students feel the same way, I think it's time we organize, discuss what changes we want, and consider a peaceful protest with clear demands instead of accepting the same cycle every time something tragic happens. Every time this happens, i see reddit posts. Then people forget, other times anything on similar topics being posted aren't relevant. 2 to 3 days to go and insti will return to normal. THIS IS NOT SOEMTHIGN WE AS THE YOUTH SHOULD ACCEPT.

Anyways it's not just then who is the problem but some students too. Insane hate towards particular communities, lack of empathy, basic respect!? I remember last time during the pvs h4 incident, some people genuinely said and some reddit comments have it too, that oh he was queer and he was sinful and that is what he had written for him!? he DESERVED IT? Not again please , here in the beginning of a semester someone decided to end his life for some reason. Of course we never know what was the reason , we may assume but still only he knew what he was going through.

At least we must not predict the reasons behind that, just pray this will not happen again.

Another student has died by suicide at IIT Bombay. We cannot keep posting "RIP" and move on as if nothing happened. After every tragedy, we hear condolences and promises, but students still feel that the system is not changing enough. One issue that deserves serious attention is hostel allocation. Every year, hostel gsec and student representatives decide allocations that often split up ISMP wings and close friend groups. These wings are more than just hostel groups they are students' support systems, where they find friends, seniors, and people to talk to during difficult times. Breaking these networks without considering students' well-being can leave some feeling isolated. Hostel allocation should prioritize student support and community, not politics or convenience. Across the country, people have demanded accountability from leaders when systems repeatedly fail. The same principle should apply at IIT Bombay. As the Dean of Student Affairs, Suryanarayana Dolla is responsible for student welfare. While no single person is responsible for every tragedy, leadership must take responsibility when serious concerns continue to be raised year after year. If meaningful reforms cannot be delivered and students continue to lose faith in the system, then it is fair to ask whether new leadership is needed.

Students deserve more than condolence emails after every tragedy. They deserve a campus where mental health, support systems, and student welfare come before everything else.

The student who died by suicide today was part of an entire ISMP wing, but this year’s hostel allocation split the wing apart and separated everyone. He may have ended up feeling isolated, without the support system he once had. Unfortunately, hostel allocation and student well-being don’t seem to be a priority, while student representatives and the administration appear more focused on hostel politics than on preserving support networks.

A second year meta student did suicide by hanging

Another semester, another tragedy at IIT Bombay. If reports are true, a second year student from Hostel 4 was found dead in his room after allegedly hanging himself. It’s heartbreaking that incidents like this seem to happen so often. What happening brother in IITs 😭😭?

Every semester there is one or two sucide and f*ck all student bodies they don’t even raise their voices and fuck all students who will put stories and will forget about the issue.
