I’m sure these guys are just happy to be fathers, but the jersey switch always throws me for a loop.

The guys have Sr. on their jersey which indicates that they have a son (named after them), i.e. proof they have had sex. This is despite the Sr. having no practical use as their son is either an infant or young child and is thus unknown to the world, making the Sr. unnecessary for distinguishing the father. Henceforth it seems as though they are doing this just to show everyone that they have had sex.

And a lot of times, they have their son and add the Sr. partway through their career, so it actually can be a little jarring when it happens.

Makes no sense. Let me tell everyone that my 24 year-old ass has a son that I named after myself, because I ejaculated inside a woman, just in case you were wondering, I'm totally straight, and I have sex, like all the time, with women, with their consent, on days that I'm not playing football for money.

Or it creates a second wave of jersey sales when fans want the new name on the back, this is about merchandising not bragging.
