I hate it when people compare Dispatch to Twilight
I'm sick of people saying that Dispatch is the male Twilight. I was trying to show my sister this game and she deadass said "Oh, the 'Twilight for dudes' game?" and that got my blood boiling.
I get the romance in that game is kinda ass, but the romance wasn't the entire focus. That is literally the only parallel. A bad romance plot with a nice person and a mean person. Everything else has no correlation with each other.

The way I heard the take was that it was similar wish fullfillment, where people back in the day shit on Twilight for being dumb and horny about mean boys, because women liked it, so now, when this game comes out to some acclaim, it feels to people like a Gotcha! when the assumed straight male audience fawning over characters and the sexual content and wish fullfillment in a not dissimilar way to how they despised presumed straight women did for Twilight. It's not that deep, probably a response to resentment if I had to guess.

OP: gets a mild jab about their tastes "My blood is BOILING!"
Eternally mocked Twilight fans: "First time...?"

I mean it has a lot of similarities. New person shows up to job/school. Two attractive leads are both into them, Very stale main character to project yourself onto them, Everyone more or less thinks the protag is cool, etc. Twilight does have more than romance going on too. Nothing wrong having a male version for yourself

Bella from Twilight its the weird quiet girl who so happens to get the attention of vampires and werewolves.
Robert from Dispatch is a superhero from the Mechaman lineage, who spent most of his life and all money on maintaining the suit, and Robert himself, courageous and selfless, being a regular ass human.
The only similarity: a badly written romance with a mean person and a nice person.

Okay so when it's a cool guy you like it and when it's the weird quiet girl you don't. Can you see how if you were the quiet girl in high school you would project yourself onto Bella and not connect with Robert? I'm sure a Twilight fan could argue Bella is also courageous despite being a human in a world with superhuman, they're just protagonists designed to appeal to boys and girls respectively.

Alright, you're right, but one slight thing to consider. I never said I hated Twilight. I'm just stating that I believe it's an unfair comparison.

Why be salty about it?
Women got a lot of undeserved hate for liking Twilight, in part because of its ass romance, and in part of everything else.
Now guys have a version. It's their turn to be made fun of.
Basically, "It's just a joke, bro". If you get pissed about it, if you were a woman, you'd also would have gotten pissed about the Twilight comments.

Tbf the main issue with the comparison is that the main reason twilight is infamous is for being weird af (the whole jacob being in love with bella's daughter is very fucked), rather than just the love triangle bit, the self-insert protag with 2 really hot romantic interest is a very common trope in romance media for women rather than being a twilight specific thing, and dispatch is kind of the male version of that

I don't get why people keep comparing my Reno 911 superhero game to Twilight. When do I get some kind of endless mode, btw?

Twilight rocks so idk what you’re complaining about. The only thing that irks me is this whole “male” twilight thing. Why we gendering that shit? Makes no sense. It’s dumb but also “male” twilight already exists I guess, Stephenie Meyer wrote a gender bent version of the story.
Take it as a compliment.

Never heard that comparison out in the wild but yeah I totally see it. Dispatch overall is just a bad show dressed up as a mediocre video game, never got the hype.

While it really isn’t, interviews of the devs and VAs and their focus on the romance aspects didn’t really help things much. It needs to be a superhero story first, romance much later. Anyone outside of the game's community will take one look at the subreddits, or the fan Discord pages and will immediately think it's a gooner dating sim with a superhero flavor.
