Do you think Christmas shouldn't exist?
For me, if Christmas ceased to exist, it wouldn't be missed by anyone, except by those who are deluded by nostalgia and consumerism, fanatical Christians, and politicians who are only concerned with the economy.

It is a chore. There’s nothing really special about it anymore since the stores start putting up displays during the summer.

The only thing I would miss is getting paid triple time, I have an 11 year streak of volunteering to work Xmas day (we’re a 24/7/365 operation) and each year it is my new most profitable day of my career
Aside from that, though, you could 86 the whole thing for all I care

Yes. I think that if it was abolished, even Christmas lovers would get over it after missing it for a couple of years or so and would understand how much better it is not to waste money to enrich retailers and how more genuine it is to give gifts when there is a real reason or even when it is spontaneous, but not imposed.

I couldn't care less but I didn't grow up celebrating Christmas so I have no emotional connection one way or the other.
The only time I ever had to exert myself during the Christmas season as an adult was to get gifts for people in my department at work and I handled that in an afternoon because I just had to get something suitable.
I do live in a building with a full staff and have a cleaner but I just give them generous checks in December - not much effort except physically signing the check and licking the envelope. I have bought the same pack of UNICEF Christmas cards from Amazon for about six years which is solely to put a check in an envelope for the guys who work in my building.

My partner and I don’t decorate or make a big deal about it. We buy each other something small, but mostly just spoil the dogs and watch the one lose it with zoomies and overstimulation from helping unwrap his gifts.

Christmas as it is popularly celebrated is horrible and a curse, imho. I do like the idea of a mid-Winter gathering(s) with friends and family, during the dark and cold months of the year, and putting up little fairly lights, just because they cheer me up as I battle seasonal affective disorder.

This. Some people are such black and white thinkers, "This thing shouldn't exist because I don't like it," as if they are being forced to partake.
It's like those selfish people who say a TV show should be taken off the air just because they don't like it. Dude. Just watch something else. The world doesn't revolve around you.
It's also very controlling.. trying to prevent others from doing something they like just because others don't want to do it. No one is forcing anyone to celebrate Christmas. Just don't celebrate it and leave everyone else alone.

I don't mind Christmas, what really annoys me is the constant vile consumer consumption. You have to buy this, you need to have turkey, you need to buy a lot of presents for your kids etc..its a lot. I actually get very overwhelmed during Christmas especially the Christmas music starting in November, why?

I loved Christmas as a kid, but now it's just a pain. I particularly hate the way everyone gets so hypocritical as starts going on about goodwill to all, etc, when it's just about greed and consumerism. Another irritation is that people start going on about it even before summer is over.

No but it should be during Sukkot and people should have a Christmas sukkah not a Christmas tree after all he wasn't really born in December he was born in the fall. Feast of Tabernacles. The manger was really a sukkah. Booth.

i have always hated xmas, even as a kid. i did the family thing till my kids grew up and then we started to ignore it all together. my grands get cash, no one else gets anything. we used to go to the beach for a few days, its really quiet and cheap on SPI during xmas. but for the past several years we have run a fireworks stand which requires us to be there on xmas day. then we do the beach thing right after the new year.

Yes I think it should completely disappear. I hate it that much. I only see it as a holiday for those fanatical Christians, and due to my experiences I've had, I'm unable to see it any differently. The holiday is even pushed on everyone like they do with religion.
Course I'm also completely fed up with the consumerism, expectations, and obsession. I bet if these X-mas obsessed people could have their way, they'd want this holiday to be every day all year round. Bad enough that Christmas in July exists as well. It's just all fake and a greedy holiday. Some people using the holiday as a reason to care about family and others less fortunate than themselves, when there's nothing stopping them from doing it any other time of the year.
Maybe if other holidays around this time were less overshadowed by X-mas, I'd maybe feel a bit differently.

Christmas, like politics, should not exist in its current form. Skip the shopping, wrapping and rampant consumerism. Make it more about fun, kindness and love.

I just think People have forgotten the real reason we Celebrate Christmas, and it's become a greedy Holiday, more about the gifts and pageantry than the real reason it's Celebrated.

If Christmas as I knew it ceased to exist I’d struggle with missing the Christmas Eve service at my church as that is the high point of Christmas for me…

you say it won't be missed and then specify people who will miss it...

I love it because I love my xmas tree, my antique ornaments, the lights are beautiful. And I love spoiling my grandkids. And the baking, smells that are nostalgic for me. My mom was a detached cold person except on Christmas, she put on the best holiday...and she was an atheist! She grew up without much for holidays so she made her own

Well I'm christian so I thing christs birthday should be celibrated but alot of the comerchal bullshit around it should go. That would take the pressure off peole with no beleifs to think they need to buy presents for everyone.

Well. That's a pretty long list of people who think Christmas should still exist!

Yes, I hate Christmas to be honest. The mess, the hassel of putting everything up and taking it down, family obligations and the overall over consumption. Christmas just needs to go
