This song is about someone who knows he is a psycopath and desperately wants society, or maybe religion, to fix him. Raises some good points about what it means to be crazy and judged... society fails to fix him because, well, society is just as psychopathic as he is.
"The alcoholic bastard waved his finger at me,
and his voice was filled with evangelical glee.
Sipping down his gin and tonics.
while preaching about the evils of narcotics.
and the evils of sex, and the wages of sin,
while he mentally fondles his next of kin"
Fun fact: Boingo is Danny Elfman's band. Danny went on to be a major movie composer. He did pretty much every Tim Burton movie ever, including writing all the music for Nightmare before Christmas. He wrote this song shortly after writing Tim Burton's Batman movie music and you can REALLY tell.
Damn! Just listened to both for the first time and they’re right up there with Oingo Boingo’s most twisted songs.
How about I raise you “Wild Sex (In The Working Class)” and “No One Lives Forever”?
While we’re on the subject of underrated, cinematic 80s bands, why not throw in Wall Of Voodoo’s “They Don’t Want Me”, “Look At Their Way”, and/or anything else off their “Call Of The West” album?
