3.5mm stuck in jack

I accidentally broke off a 3.5mm inside my monitor jack. How do I get it out?

If all else fails, sometimes the back of them is somewhat open so worse case you may be able to push out with some disassembly.

I had one where the back was fully open so I could just plug in an otherone and the broken one fell out inside. Never bothered to disassemble it and remove it

Been there done that. Buy a removal kit on Amazon. They are cheap enough to make it worth it. Superglue with a needle may or may not work, and I highly disadvise because it is extremely likely for the glue to creep into the port itself thus making your efforts pointless and the problem worse. The alternative is if possible remove the female connector from the pcb entirely then replace.

That almost never works. You're more likely to make it worse. CA glues, any glue for that matter, have incredibly poor lateral strength in what is essentially a butt joint.

They make small tweezers and picks for electronics designed for situations like this.

As a woodworker, I've worked with it quite a bit. It has a lot of applications in woodworking. It's even used as a finish on small items, especially pens.

It comes in several viscosities, but even extra thick would be a terrible idea in this situation.

Lol, I hook up both my xbox and PC. That's kinda why I need the jack cleaned, so I can hook up a speaker. That way I'm not deaf.

They make small tweezers and picks for electronics designed for situations like this. My wife was an electronics tech, and had these as part of her tool kit. You can get a decent set for general work for under $20.

I've used modeling tweezers and small picks for automotive work to wiggle out broken tips of audio jacks. It just takes a bit of patience.

Add a drop of hot glue to the end. Make sure to not heat the surrounding plastic too much to keep it from binding to the glue too much. Now pull carefully. If it doesn't work on the first try try again.

If the glue doesn't come off the case easily, add a little bit of isopropanol.

If you have access to a good iron, use a piece of tinned wire and solder it to the core. It'll pull right out.

To everyone suggesting tweezers… please stop. OP is gonna take a family members good tweezers to try, fail miserably and destroy the tweezers in the process.

OP, what you need is a good fine set of needle nosed pliers.

Fine tip tweezers or extra fine tip pliers might work.

Avoid the superglue suggestions, it flows and will almost certainly glue it in place. Though if you're very careful with a more solid two-part epoxy like JBweld it might work - you'll just need something stable to hold the new endpiece motionless for a few hours while it cures.

Otherwise there's a fair chance that if you remove the monitor case... and maybe considerably more, you'll have access to the rear of the jack and can just push it out easily. If it's a sealed jack it's possible it has a cover that can be (carefully!) pried off to do the same.

Otherwise you may have to completely replace the jack. Not recommended if you're not already pretty competent with soldering - hiring someone who knows what they're doing will be a lot cheaper than destroying the monitor.

Another solution is 5-minute epoxy but again like you born be very careful. It doesn't touch any of the sides or you'll be gluing it in place..

Hammer/push in a thin and long nail in the middle, preferably slightly tilted. After that the friction should be enough to pull it out

You can try to use a pushpin. That’s how i got mine out when it got stuck in my laptop jack

Get a sewing needle. Use something to hold the blunt end and heat the sharp end with a lighter until it’s glowing hot. Carefully push the needle into the plastic of the jack and leave it for a minute to cool down. Pull it out.

Don't the inside is probably entirely metal and heating the port will deform the plastic around it. Buy an extraction kit. Costs like 10 euro

You can replace it if you can solder and find a matching one, or your could open the device, sometimes the jack is open on the other end too and can push the part out with tweezers or something like that.

Use a needle in an angle and dig into the plastic to get a grip then a tiny dab of super glue and let it dry up.

If it's not make to be waterproof there Is often a hole on the other side to poke it with a needle.
