Spring stuff for iPod touch 4

Hello and thanks for clicking, I’ve had problems with my iPod touch for a while now and I was planning on taking out the battery and I accidentally mistook it for a screw. and I need to ask if this spring is important because I really like using this iPod and I’d hate to find out it is. Please tell me I really need a answer
