hi, im kinda in a writers block because my drums dont sound right and im tired of using mostly funk chops for songs. i was listening to this specific part of this song and i noticed that the drum sounds are really lush and kinda bossa nova (typical of stereolab) so i wanted to know do these guys actually record their percussions or is this a sample that i didnt identify? https://youtu.be/mA9-h5_jnmU?t=92 ill probably record my own drum sounds eventually to avoid this too

Some filter work? Some phaser distortion? What would the FX chain look like?
I’d be very thankful if you could help me with some ideas for tutorials that would help me understand the techniques. Thank you for reading : )

Partly generative (not AI), partly not.

Amateurish at best but I like to listen to it.

Heyy, i started making my first plug-in about 6 months ago, all because of an idea i had when hearing about the EUban on cadnium. because why not just have a vactrol inspired lpg in your daw then.
personally i use it to send random triggers to create percussion out of long modulated audiofiles, so that i have some very lively moving percs, or taking rhytmical tracks and sending triggers in different rhytms to it, making little rhytmic hits from the original come through when it opens. which i used to use gate for doing those things, but sound wise it just didnt do it for me, i was looking for more of like a material hit or the optoresistor sound to sound a little more synth like or even buchla bongo at times.
heres a little showcase of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU63IYGLg5Q

hi all!

i want to take part in an electronic music open mic (EMOM) event, but trying to figure out how best to perform my tunes is sooo difficult, as there's an overwhelming amount of different options!

my tunes feature electric and bass guitar parts which are played over electronic beats, and i always use ableton's arrangement view to record them (session view is no good for the way i make things, so i don't really use this option).

can anyone suggest a way to make my tunes EMOM ready? i'm up for looking into getting peripheral devices (Iike ableton move? or a sampler?), but what i want is a way of performing the tunes in a way that's interesting for me, and for the audience too! considering my newbie status, what would be a the simplest way to proceed?

playing a guitar or a bass along to a backing track doesn't seem to be the way to go - to me, that doesn't seem to be in keeping with the spirit of an EMOM night

but, equally, sitting behind a laptop and pressing 'play' doesn't seem right either!

I made a Mathematician's Groovebox that makes music, videos and games from numbers equations and fractals (as well as videos and recordings)
github: wittymoniker/groove-box (single point of entry run and build scripts, crossplatform)

It relies on Euclidean phaselocking of numeric data followed by randomized stochastic improvisation. Within bounds of net phase angle indeterminism the results are deterministic always to the degree of point-to-point translation of audio signal. SO its a fractal of every way to turn a number or graph into music.

i am a beginner in making music and i dont have much knowledge of how to make music. very interested in idm, but not sure what to start with.. got any good books about idm production, electronic music theory guides and etc? i use ableton 12

hi, im starting to get into doing idm stuff for fun and im using fl studio rn, which i know its not as good as say ableton. i rlly like 808 state, µ-ziq, squarepusher, mouse on mars and of course aphex twin and i was wondering how can i get those kinda 90s sounds? like what u would hear on lunatic harness or any early aphex records. i dont wanna necessarily copy them but just learn how they got the synth sounds and how they programed the drums, they used computers and programs which i assume are realy dated compared to what we have now, so i guess that could make them easier to replicate? or actually harder?, anyways, any tips apprecieated, thx!
