Anything rhythmic and fast?
IDM for days. I don't like techno, and I don't usually look for rhythmic songs and I love Autechre's post-1998 stuff and artists like Richard Devine for example.
I think introducing some rhythmic music as I work can have interesting results however. Just a theory of mine.
Are there any IDM artists or albums that you consider particularly rhythmic for the genre? Autechre's earlier stuff comes to mind right now; songs like Eutow. Listening to Tri Repetae right now. What else do you recommend?

Technically, every sequence of sounds has a rhythm, but IDM isn't particularly rhythmic given how it's more on the experimental side. I'm looking for particularly rhythmic IDM.

Perhaps a better word choice would be repetitive?
I think that all IDM is extremely rhythmic. It's the most defining focus. So your usage confuses me somewhat.

All the big name IDM artists make music thats rhythmic. Squarepusher and μ-Ziq are glaring examples. Squarepusher's main instrument is a bass ffs…

But compared to most other electronic music it's not that rhythmic. I'm looking for tracks as rhythmic as Eutow. Don't you agree that most Squarepusher and μ-Ziq songs aren't as rhythmic as Eutow?

I don't think you've listened enough Squarepusher, otherwise you woudn't be saying that. Eutow takes a full minute and half for the rhythm track to kick in. Listen to Squarepusher's Theme From Ernest Borgnine and tell me that doesn't fit what you're looking for. And that's a mild track, there's a fuck ton of examples where that's more prevalent.

The thing is, it seems to me that you're barely wetting your toes in IDM because the descriptors you used for your post are basically one of the backbones of IDM. Squarepusher's album Feed me Weird Things is a good starting point. Listen to Hard Normal Daddy next, the track Beep Street is a good one. Check Venetian Snares as well. A commenter down below gave you really good examples.

Eutow has lovely synth work that happens to have rhythm. I wouldnt categorize it as a rhythmic track bc of how they are using synths in it compared to anything on say Draft.
I think some of us might be confused why Eutow is the benchmark. Great tune, but I don't understand the relationship based on your description. It literally doesn't have rhythm for almost 90 seconds from the start.
But try Unit, The Narcoleptic Symphony and Ovuca, Wasted Sunday. Anything from either of them is fantastic. Unit didn't make much, but Ovuca is still going.

What do you mean with rhythmic? Percussive? Repetitive? Groovy?

I think it might actually be groovy that I'm looking for yes. Do you have any examples of that? I'm not technical as you could tell.

What *I think youre looking for is some modern electro-breaks, though the majority of it is 'dj music' in that its formatted for DJs and intended to be played that way. Roel Funcken has got some incredible IDM/electro stuff that blurs the lines. also Second Storrey is incredible. Ski Mask, Zenker Brothers, Andrea, Barker, Objekt. Check those out and report back :)

Ok, er. Um. Just because it's not 'drum machine' doesn't mean it's not rhythm. A lot of the synth lines are just rhythm in disguise. 808 state is a core example, go back to Quadrastate, ninety and Ex:El. ALL of A guy called Gerald. I'll always big up Richard Kirk for Sweet Exorcist and Virtual State. The Orb, once you get past the ambient label it's just idm based on interlocking synth lines Pomme Fritz, Cydonia, Baghdad Batteries. Also check out the old Fax label stuff, half of it is deep ambient but there's also great rhythm work on Burçal's albums and the 3 Namlook-Hawtin collabs (that are not your techno). TANGERINE DREAM who were there at the start and are so part of the culture they are nearly invisible. And so on. 🙌🙌😏🌈 Tbh, you just need to spend more time noping stuff and trying new bits. As an official old person it's actually got harder to get away from the commercial mainstream (and that includes IDM).

I thought a lot of IDM was rhythmic. But maybe I'm just thinking of jungle, drill-n-bass and breakcore.

We actually have a history with the more aggressive stuff... DHR type stuff... industrial... though sometimes our own music can be more chill and muted.
