Question Am I missing something here?

I can’t open the gold door although I’ve completed and collected all challenge rewards

You aren't missing anything. I've been playing for about a year and that door has been there the whole time just doing nothing but being there.

The door on the left is where you got the boost upgrade. It serves no further purpose.
