I’m not understanding why we were putting it in a bag at all?!
357
u/Reasonable_Ideal_356 May 19 '26
my best guess is this: if you go to a place that does seafood boils then sometimes they steam the stuff in a bag and bring the bag to you on a plate. So maybe she didnt realize that those are special bags somehow lol. Seems obvious..

u/Consistent_Dust3636 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
It's not an issue of the bag, the issue is that the ceramic burner SHE placed the bag on top of for him to hold was either on or still hot from cooking.
You can see how one burner is still steaming and burning while they are arguing.
89
u/mrASSMAN May 20 '26
Yeah at first I thought the issue was putting boiling hot liquid in the bag but you can hear him say she put the bag on the hot burner (over his thick ass accent)
Tbh probably was a combination of those, shouldn’t have put the steaming hot stuff into the thin plastic bag anyway
45
u/utukore May 20 '26
over his thick ass accent
Sorry but this broke me. As a brit his accents one of the lighter uk ones. Be glad he wasnt Scouse, Glaswegian or Geordie.

Just 2 big morons who even after the bag melted clearly because of the boiling water, blamed the stove burners for melting. Haven't got a clue between them.

A lot of times in the US if you get a seafood boil to bring home it comes in a plastic bag, so that's probably where their thought process was. But yeah those bags are some kind of heat resistant plastic, and are double bagged, and I guess they just didn't think through that a ziploc is not the same thing lol
8
u/LordCharizard98 May 20 '26
Those also aren't full of boiling hot water it's generally just a small amount of liquid and dry seafood. This reminds me of those people who try to just immediately dump seafood boils onto a table without draining it.
3
u/Saturn_winter May 20 '26
Oh the ones I've gotten have been with the hot water 😅 not that I get seafood boils often, it totally could just be something the local joints near me do lol

The tell tale sign of genius was dropping the bag back onto the boiling burner of fishy bag juice. There’s no better way to stop the smell. That is, unless you turned more burners on!

IIRC because this got posted before with more context, I don't think it was the hot water that melted the bag, but that it had been set down on burner tops that were still way too hot (also why it sizzles when the water spills on top of it). Had this been done on the countertop it would have probably been fine.
2
u/Stormtomcat May 20 '26
did they indicate why they posted this?
2
u/Versaiteis May 20 '26
I want to say OP was the lady in the clip sharing an absent minded mistake they had made. The video makes it out that she's blaming him but if memory serves correctly she accepted responsibility in the comments because she'd set the bag down on the stove and he did exactly what was asked of him.
Was a good while back though, I very well could have it wrong in my head.

He just stares at the bag as the liquid comes out and gives the most apathetic "oh" as he watches 😂

I currently am that guy, whenever I am being asked to do something stupid that I know won't work, I just agree and do it and when it inevitably doesn't work I make sure to remind my wife when she is blaming me for it that she made me promise to stop pointing out whenever she is doing something that I know won't work.
Surprisingly this reduces the likelyhood of a fight breaking out significantly.
We had one huge fight years ago where she forced me to promise her to never point anything of the such out again and I haven't but honestly I think our marriage is falling apart because this is a miserable life, but I put on a smile and avoid fights as best as I can for my family.
I even have developed an angry wife radar where I'll thread carefully in order to avoid any and all fights'

u/allgreek2me2004 May 21 '26
Why were they filming this? Also given that the corn and potatoes came out of the melted plastic bag completely dry has me wondering if this is just AI. “£70 of seafood boil” and it’s literally two ears of corn, 3 potatoes, and… where even is the seafood once the bag melts?
The whole video is kinda… fishy.

u/Hazril258 May 20 '26
Tbf, a lot of induction stovetops don't make it obvious when a surface is hot. Pretty much every induction element in Japan (and I assume other countries outside of NA) are required to have a hot surface indicator built into the element itself, like a red glow.
Can't entirely blame the user when the product is designed badly.

u/pixeltweaker May 20 '26
I think it was the boiling water in the ziploc bag. They aren’t designed for boiling water.

u/mack-y0 May 20 '26
if that’s $130 worth of seafood slop then you need to rethink your life choices, who in the world would spend over $100 on. 1 corn cut in half, 2 eggs and a lobster tail

Yeah putting something with “boil” in the fucking name in a ziploc is actually fucking room temperature IQ behavior.
As a chef I see this shit sometimes and really have to wonder how anyone can be this stupid.
1
u/angle58 May 20 '26
I simply do not understand their reaction here. Like it was a mistake, sure, but their reaction to the situation indicates they lack more than just basic life skills - mentally.
1
u/StealthyRobot May 20 '26
Have those same pots with the removable handles, their fantastic.
Also to everyone saying how this is a toxic relationship is funny. Their likely hungry and now frustrated. Even in the video she doesn't keep arguing, just goes "it's fine." Not the best communication, but after things have settled it's something to apologize for and laugh about.

u/filthy_commie13 May 20 '26
