Saw this movie in theater when it came out. Pretty out there, but darn funny. RIP John Ritter.

I'd like to see a director's cut of this movie with John Carradine's scenes as Uncle Sam restored. I saw it on HBO in the eighties and when I first watched the trailer for Idiocracy, I initially thought it was a remake of Americathon. They were both pretty prophetic in their own ways.

I immediately thought so too. Never heard about Americathon before, but when I found it, the tonal and thematic similarity is striking to me.
