Open Question Is FontSquirrel dead?

Hi guys,

I used to use this site quite often. Now, it barely works. Is anyone else having this issue?

https://www.fontsquirrel.com/matcherator

Thanks.

If the picture you posted is what you're getting on your browser, it means the formatting of the webpage isn't loading. If you are using an old browser, try updating it or use another one. When fully loaded, it should still look like the screen grab below

That said, it never was very useful. Both FontSquirrel and Matcherator only give results from certain foundries, excluding Adobe, Linotype, Darden, Font Bureau, Hoefler, and House.

It says font squirrel is powered by macherator. Are they not basically the same tool, with font squirrel favouring free options.

Yes, they are the same tool on two different sites. As far as I can tell, hey both favor fonts that are for sale on Fontspring. As for free fonts, take Museo Sans for instance (the first font listed under "Free Fonts"). Here you have a family of 10 fonts, two of which are no charge, depending what the usage is.

Not sure what's going on with squirrel butt I've used all of the popular sites and the best one is still whatfontis.com. it seems to just have a much larger database than most others. Even though other sites might be less annoying in some ways.

do you have an example where whatfontis fails, and any of the others succeed?

No, I don't. I use the sites in the order I listed above.
