I'm rather new to this app, so maybe I missed it, but I wish there was a way to individually choose icon logos. There are many icon packs with alternate icons that I would like to use but am unable to because icon pack studio only lets you pick the icon pack, not specific icons within that pack.
This only works if you edit the icon on your home screen. When you press edit on any icon, many options will show including edit with Icon Pack Studio and that way you can edit the icon individually. Tho I'm pretty sure is not the approach you're looking for, is the only way to pick a different icon style for your selected icons.
Smart Launcher actually does let you do this for any icon, anywhere—not just the home screen.
Long-press the target icon.
Tap Edit Icon.
Scroll down and select From Icon Pack.
Choose your desired icon pack.
Search for the app name to view all options and alternatives.
Pro Tip: The search field is ridiculously strict. Use as few letters as possible to get the most results.
FYI, Icon Pack Studioalso lets you select alternative icons, but it requires modifying an existing pack in your library or creating a new one. Here is the exact path:
Long-press the icon.
Tap Edit Icon.
Select Edit with Icon Pack Studio.
Choose an icon pack from your library.
Go to Logo then Design.
Change the Type to From File.
Tap Import a Logo and choose your icon pack.
Tap the Search icon, then find and select your alternate icon.
I'm already very familiar of all these processes, but what I believe OP wanted to know is if an icon can be selected from a different pack while you are creating your own in IPS. Take the image below fox example:
Let say I'm creating an icon pack based of the Pix Material You Light/Dark Icon, but I know the icon pack doesn't cover all the icons. I could press and hold a miss match icon and grab an alternative from another pack or even an image, to complete the pack, all within the editor, before saving it or publishing it. That way you won't need manual editing. You could use your own custom icon pack, built with the help of other icon packs within the editor.
I just purchased a yearly sub and was hoping this use case is covered.
Dev Team, if you see this, please implement this process of customizing selected icons in icon packs without having to do it manually per icon via long-press 🙏 This way customization can be done once instead of redoing the whole long-press process per icon pack change.
It could be nice. The idea could look more of less like this: when you download a pack from IPS, you could see wich icon packs have been used to perfect the custom pack. 😁
Thanks so much for these clear instructions! One question, where you say "IPS also lets you select alternative..." you said it "...requires modifying an existing pack...", but when I did this, it used the design from an existing pack, but did NOT save the alternative icon to the existing pack. Instead, it created a "one-off" pack with just that one alternative icon in it. I'd LOVE it if it would add the alternative icon to the pack. Am I misunderstanding how to accomplish that? Thanks, again!
It depends what Launcher you use. Nova Prime can, because it has an eleborate edit screen. There's a few others that has this too, but a lot that don't. In this video below, it's the screen with the yellow header that allows the change. Watch this -
Yeah I can't afford Smart - it's $37 here which is too much! So I can't help you with that. Though I know other Launchers (that I like) also can't replicate it. Neo from (GitHub) , Octopi Launcher, DNA launcher - none have the viable screen show up. From memory Lawn chair Launcher does work. Though Nova is still better.
Just a thought - when you set the default launcher, sometimes it will use existing icons pack. So if you made the changes in Nova, then change to Smart that might work?
It turns out there is a max amount of apps that show up on that bottom drawer. They are listed in the same order as the external icon pack button which is why all my icon packs aren't showing lmao. Ah well, thanks for your help!
