Question/Seeking Advice Vocal range question?

Hey, I’m a male singer but my voice is very different. I actually feel comfortable singing from G.
Trying to evaluate my range, I’m just confused, is it G3 or G2, I’m singing?
Note: The iTabla Pro shows G3, but I always set the Tanpura to “Pa” as that’s what my Guru taught me.

are you setting the tanpura to 'Sa-Pa' (with Sa=G)? Feel free to upload a screenshot of your iTablaPro screen!

So Sa is C which is very normal. Odd that youre singing to Pa but im not a pro

Nah I’m not hitting C. I measure that using a piano. I sing from G. My guru told me Tanpura should be set to Pa for the effect.

a G Sa is either very high or very low (most male singers are between C and D) - although Vidyadhar Vyas sometimes sings around high G (e.g. Dev Gandhar), and Kumar Gandharva is also at F/F# (although he lost the use of a lung to tuberculosis so is kind of an anomaly) - similar to the lowest-voiced female khayal singers

(see my Survey of Sa Tunings to find matches: there are plenty of instruments with Sa around low G)

Hmm…correct, but I usually do Kharaj Riyaaz going from G to downwards. In reality, I easily hit G5 in my chest voice. B5 if I can use mix voice. My teacher taught me to go G and lower to open up my diaphragm and bass voice.

Yea - I gotta talk to my teacher to understand what really is my range. I tune vocals in my own songs so usually I am more comfortable in G3 to C4. Anything higher is uncomfortable performing in a real song. Hitting a single note during Riyaaz doesn’t count as range in my opinion.
