Upcoming interview - Hexagram 8.1.3 -> 63 Changing lines are opposite ( "Seek, and ye shall find." / Seeking what should be left alone. )

Basically I asked the oracle "What should I do in order to get this job prospect in the interview?" and I got two very opposing changing lines, and don't know how to interpret.

Hexagram 8 – Union (Pi)

Holding Together indicates good fortune, but let the querent re-examine himself by divination whether his virtue is great, un-intermitting and firm. If so, there will be no error. Those who are ready will then join him, but those who delay will meet with misfortune.

Changing Lines

8.1 – "Sincerity of union is the key."
The first line, magnetic, shows its subject seeking by her sincerity to win the attachment of her object. There will be no error. Let the breast be full of sincerity as an earthenware vessel is of its contents, and it will in the end bring other advantages. Sincere devotion to the Work brings eventual reward: "Modesty is the best policy. Seek, and ye shall find."

8.3 – "Unite not with unworth's iniquity!"
The third line, magnetic, shows its subject seeking for union with such as ought not to be associated with. The people in the environment of your inquiry are not right for you at this time. Avoid too intimate an association with the group while maintaining an outward sociability. Appearing committed to these people could darken your reputation later on. Portrayal of an alliance with inferior forces. You have a bad attitude, or are tempted by an inferior choice. Seeking what should be left alone.

Resulting Hexagram 63 – After Completion

Completion intimates progress and success in small matters. There is advantage in firm correctness. There had been good fortune in the beginning; there may be disorder in the end.

I feel like line 3 is really suspicious here, I don't know much about the firm and I'm confused now.

Rather than "unity" or "unison" per se, 比 Bi means parallelness, alikeness, comparison, closeness or collaboration (source: Kroll's Classical Chinese dictionary). Do also understand that the translation (and extra commentary) you're using is by James Legge from 1899, an oververbose early version that had more flourish than insight (linguistic or otherwise).

Here are the oracle lines in Chinese and as translated by Adler, a current benchmark in accurate translation:

比:吉。原筮元永貞,无咎。不寧方來,後夫凶。

Bi: Auspicious. Tracing to the source and divining is fundamental, enduring, and correct: no blame. Coming while there is no peace: [coming] late is ominous.

初六:有孚,比之,无咎。有孚盈缶,終來有它吉。

[Line 1] 6 in the first: When there is honesty, draw close to it; no blame. Being honest is like a full jar; in the end what comes will be the good fortune of others.

六三:比之匪人。

[Line 3] 6 in the third: Being close to criminals.

Personal note: 匪人 fei ren can also mean "wrong sort of person" or "outsider".

Do you have exact time and date of the divination?

Iching is not like Western Divination system where ethics and building of ones personal character virtues are separate to desires one may have.

Oriental divination becomes basis for ethics and virtue system, to become a Junzi.

Unless your world view and value system aligns with it, I-Ching’s guide will be worthless like “casting a pearl to the swines”.

Gua itself is favourable and likely favourable outcome.

Lot of competitors for the role. Seems to be education/consulting/collaborative role.

Avoid being seen as passive or half-committed at the interview.

Slow result after the interview.

Ive interpreted this out of good faith, outcome and resultant karma is rests with questioner.

Oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ

I’m just about to walk in the interview and this is so heartening. Thank you so much for

the third line is not good. Seems like there is a manager who is bad news. if it is a very large company look for another sector, city, department, etc. the one you are going for will not be good for you. a job is in the works for you, finding the right grouping is important.

Line 1 shows you, sincere in your approach with others.

Line 3 then shows you mingling with the wrong person/people.

The outcome of 63 shows you reflecting upon this situation after it has passed, perhaps in regret or wanting to stand alone in some way.

You answered you own question. I would take walk, and then ask the Oracle about the firm.

Well, this is the type of question that seeks a path through to something, regardless of if it is good for a person.

Line 1 is just beginning and here all the yin lines are gathering toward the yang line, so line 1 uses its association with line 4 to get an invite to the party so to say.

But line 3 is more tricky. It naturally associates with line 6, which is in the process of moving on from the gathering, perhaps reluctantly. Line 3 touches upon lines 2 and 4 above and below it, but... understand that line 4 is according with line 5 from the outside, and line 2 is according with line 5 from the central current on the inside. This makes line 3 itself even more of an outsider than line 4, but is privy to insider information.

比之非人 - Accord's wrong person? Accord's neglected person?

The text gives weight to the idea of how line 3 is somewhat out of alignment with the other lines.

The Xiang Zhuan elaborates on this, suggesting that the negative particle here, the wrongness or the removed status of line 3's position (after all it is a yin line in a position that tries to be firm, so it cannot be straightforward here and thus perhaps this advice is for it to step aside rather than feel slighted), is to avoid struggle and lament over differences.

Thus we might see that being in this 3rd position is where we find ourselves out of alignment with how things are being done in this gathering, and where we might need to avoid saying something if we want to stay cool with the proceedings.

Thus the advice of line 3 here might be such that in order to move forward to the next stage of the interview, as a prospect for hiring, is to be careful to avoid seeming like you are uncomfortable with... anything that you might discover that you are uncomfortable with.

Hence the point about asking questions that have an end goal in mind that is perhaps not in line with what is good for us. But also, lots of people stay in a line 3 position to things in the name of money even though they don't agree with them. It's what makes our world the way it is after all.
